This will always be one of my single most important messages when it comes to actually realizing better cities. Please remember it every single time someone claims there’s a “war on drivers.” There isn’t. There’s just better or worse cities for EVERYONE.

Throwing this out there! My buddy @shrek2ondvd made this for our tabletop sessions, and it's AMAZING! Sadly the current party hasn't fucked up enough to use it extensively: youtube.com/shorts/es09mRRPV…

That really was one impressive flammagenitus pyrocumulus cloud from the 'controlled' burn off south of Ōtepoti this morning. As seen from our house on Otago Peninsula 29.32 kms away, & karetai track. #Dunedin #NZ

The old menu was static and boring. You can now move everything around in the scene. Can't wait to add more little easter eggs in these for world-building. layers.itch.io/glorious-z - full release coming soon #gamedev | #indiedev | #IndieGameDev | #indiegame | #madewithunity

Yep. Walkers and bikers spend more money than cars at local business.
It’s REALLY important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally AGAINST downtown bike-lanes, later became one of their most vigourous supporters, because of EVIDENCE that bike-lanes are better for downtown business than any street parking they replace.

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen was filled with cars until a 2 year pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

Every city has gaps in its street life, “missing teeth” in the urban “smile” that a city shares with citizens and visitors each day. Those holes are actually easy to fill, if we have the vision, culture and will to do it. Examples from Helsinki’s waterfront & Brisbane’s downtown.
Remember this picture every single time you hear someone in your city say "we're not Amsterdam." This was #Amsterdam in the 1970's via @fietsprofessor. The cities we admire made better choices regarding cars, and are still making them today. Better choices instead of excuses.

If we want people to take the bus it's a good idea if they actually fucking show up right. Would have biked in but need to pick up the car....

The sensory experience of being in a low-car city can’t be communicated through a photograph. The sounds of church bells, chirping birds, and cheerful conversations. The smells of budding flowers, blossoming trees, and busy kitchens. It can transform any cynic into an advocate. – at Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Really love this reminder. Cities can be better versions of themselves, places where everyone has equitable access to the public realm. #HamOnt too.
They say “We can’t do that. We’re not Amsterdam.” You reply “Amsterdam wasn’t always like that either” & show before & after transformations illustrating how cities we admire made CHOICES. They try different excuses. Don’t accept them either. (1e van der Helststraat, 1978 & 2005)

Okay, as a geographer & card carrying nerd, I HAVE to respond to the tweets saying NZ doesn't have the population or density for rail. NZ is more densely populated than Finland. They have 250 long-distance rail services every day. We have none.

I would call the police to report a murder at Hagley Oval but they probably wouldn't show up #NZvSA
