Replying to @butlerjosh
@butlerjosh did a full-length podcast last week mischaracterizing me & distorting the truth. He publicly speculated about me being a victim of sexual abuse. How does a pastor talk publicly about a woman’s alleged abuse when she has never spoken about it herself? / 1
It’s scapegoating and slander, @butlerjosh. What makes it worse is I acted with empathy and compassion toward you. @willamettecc is it OK if he does this to women on your staff he has a pastoral relationship with? Blessed are the canceled, I guess. Rewarded with catharsis.
@wilamettecc my email is easy to find if you want evidence. Slack, texts, emails & the year long 3rd party restorative justice process I initiated. At the end of the day, how can a @butlerjosh be given a stage to preach when he's willing to publicly platform a woman's private life?
What are you
willing
to sacrifice
to create
a more beautiful
world?
What beauty
are you willing
to sacrifice,
to get by
in this world?
My answer?
Everything.
Nothing.
My newest pondering/ writing about the lost Christian practice of regularly gazing at the dying body of Jesus. Much of American Christianity proclaims a Christ-less cross. missioalliance.org/the-steri… via @missioalliance

Our #FreedomToPlant campaign continues until midnight July 4th. Before you finishing grilling and shooting fireworks, help us plant more churches in neglected and vulnerable Black and Brown neighborhoods. Here are 6 reasons to do so:
Our scars are perhaps the thin tissue Christ's light shines brightest if we remember because of his love, the most tender places have been healed....
Speak from your scars, not your wounds. @burnsclan_ #joyandjustice23
In a religious system that didn't purify a leaper w/out payment, Jesus touched him & sent him back healed to the priests as protest. Jesus became unclean in order to make a leaper clean. Who are we willing to become unclean & no longer welcome inside the city for? (Mark 1:45)
"If the church refuses to face the stern reality of sin,it will gain no credence when it talks of forgiveness.Such a church sins against its sacred trust& walks unworthy of the gospel. It is an unholy church, squandering the precious treasure of the Lords forgiveness." Bonehoeffer
“The church, when it really serves the poor, is the place where the violence of the world is overcome with the violence of love.” -Oscar Romero
I wonder if crying is one way to convert anger to the truer and deeper thing: grief, betrayal, powerlessness, sorrow, vulnerablity to harm. Anger is like bracing yourself for impact. Those deeper places are the tender spots love can penetrate and heal.
This journey on beautiful union has been no joke. It touches on many topics unbelievably important to me, which makes fractions around various themes in BU particularly grieving. This is my response to @butlerjosh apology. I continue to trust the Spirit’s work to reveal & heal.
Why do evangelicals wright so much on forgiveness and so little on repentance?
We (rightfully) ask victims to release their offense, but we so rarely publish books on how offenders should seek restoration.
Abstract gospel leads to me & Jesus w/ out you & me.
“...Love is creative, understanding goodwill for all men. It is the refusal to defeat any individual. When you rise to the level of love, of its great beauty and power, you seek only to defeat evil systems.” -Dr, Martin Luther King Jr
“The church is not a museum for pristine saints, but a hospital ward for broken sinners."- Keller
I pray that this would be true of the church. That we'd be less focused on producing products & winning at life, but filled with people & leaders who are broken, weak, and messy.
"All I know is, if I don't care about the poor, if my church doesn't care about the poor, that's evil." -Tim Keller
Caring isnt an emotion, it's an action reflected in our saving accounts, individual, & institutional decisions.
“It’s biblical that we owe the poor as much of our money as we can possibly give away.”
Tim Keller in our archives, 2010:

People who love deeply, love widely. The reverse doesn't always happen.
Loving deeply requires cultivating a life of humility, forgiveness, forebearance & the ability to see the good in every person you encounter. These are habits cultivated in every day choices over decades.
If I had never heard a sermon or read a single book by Pastor Tim, he'd still be one of the most admired and influential pastors in my life. I loved and felt loved by @timkellernyc and he will be missed dearly. My brief reflections on what he meant to me.
Love this man more then words can say. Heartbroken.
Tim is the most Kind and generous pastor.. praying Tim and his family feel that deeply in this last season this side of heaven together.
