🚨 The empty pelvis syndrome: a core data set from @PelvExGroup
📑 This study aimed to define a measurable core outcome set, core descriptor set and written definition for EPS. Consensus on strategies to mitigate EPS was also explored.
👥 103 and 119 participants took part in modified Delphi and consensus meetings, respectively. This encompassed international patient and healthcare professional representation with multidisciplinary input.

The empty pelvis syndrome: a core data set from the @PelvExGroup collaborative
➡️ doi.org/10.1093/bjs/znae042
Empty pelvis syndrome (EPS) is a significant source of morbidity following #pelvicexenteration, but is undefined.
The aim of this study is to facilitate the design of future research on EPS with three objectives:
1⃣ EPS core outcome set
2⃣ EPS pathophysiology
3⃣ EPS mitigation - strategies reaching consensus were: - omentoplasty
- bulky myocutaneous flaps
- mobilization of other structures
- use of multiple techniques for pelvic filling
The evidence to support these strategies is of low level, and reliant upon the expert opinion given here, or on largely retrospective studies.
