Why Christianity Makes Sense has a chapter on the "Lord, liar, lunatic" trilemma. I still like this argument. If Jesus claimed to be God (thus removing the fourth option, "legend"), this requires explanation. It seems unlikely that he was deceiving others deliberately (that would make him insanely malevolent, sending so many to martyrdom). The "lunatic" option is better but still has problems—it's strange to think humanity's largest religion was founded by someone so profoundly deluded about himself, to the point of purportedly doing miracles to attest to his identity (Matt. 11:4-5). The attached pic is the end of the chapter, where I try to highlight the emotional implications. It really does feel like coming to wonder if Lucy is telling the truth about a magic wardrobe!
