State Explained Like You’re 12
Imagine you’re playing a video game
Your score, health, and level keep changing as you play.
Those changing values are called state.
In programming, state is simply:
The data your program remembers right now.
Examples:
•Is the user logged in?
•What’s in the cart?
•Which page is open?
•Is the request loading or done?
Why state matters:
•State controls what users see
•Bad state management = bugs
•Most “weird” issues come from state being out of sync
The golden rule:
If something can change, it’s probably state.
Good developers manage state.
Great developers design around it.
What concept should I explain next like you’re 12? 👇🏾
