Post 2 of 3: Women in Tech
How much of being "in tech" online is actually about posting "in tech" work?
I found two peer-reviewed studies on how women in STEM present themselves on social media.
Instagram (300 #WomenInSTEM posts):
- 96% expressed STEM self-identity
- 70.7% included self promo
- 42.7% included lifestyle content
- 19.7% was actually about STEM info/activity (demonstrating competence)
TikTok (277 STEM-focused videos):
- 61% demonstrated STEM competence
- 55% expressed STEM self-identity
- 95% featured a person on screen
Another thing I noticed about the tech lifestyle side: matcha.
Matcha seems to be a prominent feature that shows up in SF startup culture.
Social listening data from Brand24 recorded 956,651 online mentions of matcha in the first half of 2026, generating over 362 million social interactions.
During SF Tech Week 2026, Monid hosted an "Agent Matcha Popup," where people could use AI agents to order matcha. Tech community organizer Grace Ling even posted about getting a coconut cloud matcha through an AI agent.
Karlieplace blogged about lifestyle tips for small business owners with a cover photo featuring a woman, a laptop, a
and matcha.
When we see someone as "a tech person" online, how much of that impression comes from what they build versus how they present themselves, and much of this has become a recognizable social-media aesthetic?

Little heads up, Tech-Family 🌸
Tonight I got a DM from someone saying they'd "accidentally reported" my account for scamming, and that I had to contact "X support" on Discord within 24 hours or my account would be deleted.
It's a scam.
X will never send you to Discord or Telegram, and nobody can "remove a report" for you. They just want your login or your money.
These people tend to work through a list of connected people so if you get one, don't reply, report it and block.
Stay safe out there Tech-Fam 💜

Job hunting is tough. I get it!!
But if your skills aren’t getting you hired, why not learn something new?
Don’t forget what you know. Stay on it but add some more….
I didn’t leave development. I added data analytics and SAP to my skills, and it opened new doors for me
Sometimes the best move isn’t giving up. It’s adapting!!!
Are you still sticking to dev, and trying to become a founder with 0 users, or learning something new?
