I believe the strongest catcoin of this century has already arrived. It’s Hajimi. Many Chinese brothers, just like me, have stood behind Hajimi for over a year without ever wavering. The greatest memes are never created by one person alone — they are given meaning by countless people together. And I think it’s finally time for the English-speaking world to truly understand what Hajimi is. Hajimi has become one of the most widespread cultural memes in China in recent years. It started with hypnotic music, cat videos, and countless remixes. But as it kept spreading, “Hajimi” gradually broke free from any single character or image. It evolved into a meme-like term across the Chinese internet for cute cats, cute animals, and even an entire genre of absurd, addictive content. Even my 70-year-old grandpa sees a cute cat and calls it “Hajimi.” The Chinese internet has produced an almost endless amount of Hajimi remixes, songs, videos, edits, and memes. On Douyin alone, Hajimi-related topics have accumulated more than 48 billion views — and the meme is still growing. Doge is one specific dog. Pepe is one specific frog. But every cute cat can be Hajimi. Every hypnotic song, absurd edit, and ridiculously cute video that you can’t stop replaying can also become Hajimi. Hajimi is more abstract, more memeable, and easier to spread across cultures. Doge and Pepe are characters. Hajimi is a language. I’ve only recently gotten back in the trenches, so I can only tag some of the trench bros I still remember.
