One of the four Penduline Tits at West Rise yesterday - two miserable hours with water-filled boots gave way to one unforgettable hour when they turned up in the sunshine and fed right in front of me!

A flock of Penduline Tits is hanging out at West Rise Marsh in Eastbourne! We watched four of these bandit-masked beauties quietly feeding on the reedmace this morning

The sea has been rough off the Sussex coast lately. This young Little Gull, the smallest gull species in the world and normally far at sea, was dancing over the surf this morning.
A lovely Siberian Chiffchaff first heard calling then ending up in the nets was this morning's highlight at Cissbury Ring
Scanning for Redwings in the dark produced a garden tick with 20 Brent Geese calling as they flew west tonight (one out of frame)!
Honey Buzzard over the garden this morning! My third Worthing tick this week after Wryneck and Black Tern. This one earned by a lazy start after Arcade Fire at the O2 last night
Missed out on White-rumped Sandpipers, which I need for Sussex, but glad to have caught up with the Squacco Heron; a couple of record shots and some footage here: southdownswildlife.com/post/…
Just back from what now feels like my 'Finland patch', after a week on the island of Vesso for my partner's sister's wedding. Some highlights from the Baltic shore: Wood Sandpiper, White-tailed Eagles, Caspian Tern and Osprey

“Anyone wondering what intensive agriculture means for birds, […] or how to engage with farmers to bring fields back to life, would learn a lot from this book.”

David Campbell makes a similar point about enjoying the expected species in the May issue of Birdwatch magazine. Shouldn’t have to be a rarity to make you smile. @devilbirder @BirdGuides @BirdwatchExtra #hertsbirds #londonbirds
It’s not always about seeing what you’d like, it’s about liking what you see. Wood pigeon and Collared Dove. @WildLondon #londonbirds #BirdsSeenIn2022
