And when I really think about it, this book was built from everything: fear, pain, anxiety, love, imagination, pressure, and years of trying to make sense of something that would not leave me alone. Sixteen years. Writing. Rewriting. Scrapping ideas. Starting over. Rebuilding characters. Changing direction. Finding the story. Losing the story. Finding it again. It’s insane when you think about what goes into writing a book and making it cohesive. And honestly, it reminds me of running. You do not figure it out overnight. You learn by doing. You learn what works. You learn what doesn’t. You keep showing up even when the pace is off, even when the story is messy, even when the body or mind is tired.
