Finally, we observe that Erk activity is highly dynamic: as cells approach mitosis, they rapidly (~2mins) extinguish pErk which introduces periods of inactivity, a process we refer to as mitotic erasure.

Using the modified biosensor, we monitor the growth of the Fgf/Erk signalling gradient in the developing zebrafish blastula and note heterogeneity in the single cell response to Fgf signalling across the entire signalling field

@AmoyelLab have generated transgenic #Drosophila lines for tissue specific expression (with and without a T2A-His2Av-mCh) and our biosensor also displays an improvement in later developing larval eye discs

We noticed in the #zebrafish embryo that the Erk-dependent pattern of Erk-KTR nucleocytoplasmic shuttling is masked by additional regulation by Cdk1. The removal of a putative cyclin binding site significantly improves the Erk specificity of the biosensor.

Follow-up of our previous work from 2018. We show that pathogenic mutation of ACVRI is enough to cause receptors clustering and auto-activation. The resulting signalling increases in duration and intensity. Well done @AnaRamachandran @MerimaMehic2 @ila_gori and all authors!
Our paper is out! 30 years after the classic works of Boyd, Laiho, Wrana, Ebner, ten Dijke, Weis-Garcia, Luo and others, and building on our 2018 paper, we show activation of TGF-β family signalling dependent on only the kinase activity of type I receptors doi.org/10.15252/embj.202010…
Congratulations @izziebradley for successfully defending your PhD thesis this afternoon! Izzie’s work focused on understanding BMPs role in forebrain identities in zebrafish embryos. We are so proud of you Doctor Bradley ✨
