The history of the pre-YouTube, pre-Facebook Internet is like World War 1, it changed everything but gets overshadowed by what came next. If you were old enough to remember it you're not considered a relevant demographic by any advertisers (this ad is aimed at people who were children in 2006) so it's always going to be a subject of niche interest despite its importance, again not unlike WW1. See, I understand that there's a translation issue, and "art" for us really means "fine art" for them. But I'd see them saying things like "manga is just a commodity you're supposed to consume mindlessly then throw in the trash" and it's like... Are Japanese people okay???
