Getting ready for Easter? 🐣 Instead of tossing plastic eggs, save them for next year or donate to local churches & schools in Miami-Dade!
Keeping plastic out of landfills & waterways helps protect our beaches, parks & wildlife 🩵🔄 Small choices = big impact!
Our first Zero Waste Miami Workshop was packed! 50+ people gathered at FIU’s Int’l Center for Tropical Botany 🔄 We heard from leaders in Paris 🇫🇷 & the U.S. on reuse systems, mapped waste challenges, & shared local solutions 💡
Recap + next session coming soon! 📘
Big news from the Zero Waste Forum! Amanda Di Perna won the “Emerging Leader” award at the Sustainability in Action Awards 🏆🌸
She’s led 33 events, removed 2,900 lbs of debris, educated 300+ students, and raised $23K to fight plastic waste 🔄
We’re so proud! 💚🌍
The Zero Waste Forum, hosted by Race to Zero Waste & Broward Clean Air, was packed with action 🌎 We toured UM’s compost & reuse systems, spoke on Zero Waste Miami’s work, & learned global solutions for waste prevention 🔄 Even the event was zero waste! 💚
Pickleball is popping off in South FL — but broken balls = plastic waste 🏓♻️ Most end up in landfills or break into microplastics 🌊 Some cities are recycling them & using eco-friendly courts. Play smart: collect cracked balls & support sustainable design 💚
At beach cleanups, it’s not just about the big stuff — the tiniest trash matters most 🌊 Microplastics, butts, straws & caps are often missed but most harmful to marine life 🐠 Every small piece you pick up helps protect the ocean & our health too 💙♻️
Clean Miami Beach & 5 Gyres collected 20K+ litter items across South FL 🗑️
Key findings:
• 83% was plastic
• Nearly 50% = food & drink single-use items 🥤
• Tons of cigarette butts on shorelines 🚬
Let’s push for reuse, better laws & a cleaner future 💚🌎
We hosted the Zero Waste Miami Spaghetti 🍝 Social with 50 guests at Mids Market! Over spaghetti and kombucha, we swapped clothes, shared zero waste ideas, and mapped out compost and reuse hubs. 130 lbs of textiles diverted!
