Two hours’ drive outside Guatemala City is the Church of Santa Cruz in Balanya. It is a quite amazing setting - with a volcano in the background which gives a puff of smoke every now and then. Indigenous people make up a large part of the congregation here (and Guatemala’s population as a whole). They face immense challenges including extreme levels of poverty and marginalisation. But the hospitality and welcome we received will stay with me for a long time, as well as the sense of togetherness and community. What a joy to celebrate Eucharist together and to preach on the faithfulness, justice and goodness of God in Jesus Christ.

Freedom of the press is of paramount importance. Today I asked whether the Home Secretary intended to make a statement about the arrest of journalists by Herts police and reassure MPs that this would never happen again. 👇

So when Liz Truss becomes PM, that'll be the second Tory PM in a row to blurt out or write crap about Jews. (By the way, my Jewish parents didn't teach me about business. They taught me to take money to the picket line outside the bus garage to support the 1959 bus strike.)
