“We hoped it would end the harassment,” her mother told The Hindu. Instead, the harassment intensified as fresh wave of social media posts has emerged speculating that the girl in the apology video is not the same person seen at the protest. “I am fed up. I have lost my work. We had no option but to leave our house because police personnel and strangers started showing up,” said the mother, who earns her living by giving tuitions at home and has been raising her daughter by herself since her husband’s death in 2019. For the past three days, the protester against whom a zero FIR was registered last week for her “abusive” remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and her mother have been living at an undisclosed location out of fear. Their address was doxxed on social media and widely shared by the right-leaning accounts even as false identifying details in a zero FIR have fuelled days of online targeting of the 15-year-old girl. @suruchiarchives ✍️ thehindu.com/news/cities/Del…

Fascinating insight by a scientist friend who’s working closely with AI in research and coding. “At this stage, AI can easily ace any PG level exams of most of the disciplines but can’t set a good paper even for a UG exam of any subject. It’s great at answering (well-defined) questions but absolutely incapable of making value judgments - say which question will test what conceptual clarity and what question is worth a one mark and which one is worth ten marks etc. It definitely knows what’s a good answer but clueless about what is a good question.”

Do NOT weaponise our trauma for your politics of communal hatred. I mourn for the evident damage this man has caused to the cause of Kashmir and the fight for Muslim dignity in this country.

A lyricist, Padma Awardee, Sangeet Natak Akademi Winner, Multiple National award winner is my molester. He was named by 3 women, including me, in front of the media. He gets platformed, protected by major Tamilnadu parties - Something I have repeated for 6 years. I told others over the years that I had been molested by Vairamuthu. Silverscreen did an in-depth interview about his Predatory ways then. Given below. It is long form. Majority Tamil society, my own music fraternity shamed, abused me in an orchestrated manner. Yet - despite being an open secret and what he is - Tamil Cinema Industry banned me from working in retaliation by the foul mouthed President of the Dubbing Union, Mr Radha Ravi - who was then in the DMK and is now in the BJP. That brings us to Radha Ravi. This case is still ongoing. silverscreenindia.com/music/…

My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.

I have a list of story ideas to commission and I want to match them with kickass reporters—those who know how to get information out from anywhere. Who can get inside a world, find sources, documents, data, and whatever else it takes to tell a fair and accurate story. At The Plank, the magazine I announced earlier this month, we are most interested in questions-led journalism—where the story is discovered in the process of reporting. This requires curious, tenacious, open-minded reporters who can stay on a story for a while to pull off a great magazine piece. If this sounds like you, and you work freelance, and you have the bandwidth to take on a (slightly ambitious) reporting project, then please get in touch. I am at [email protected]. Send me the investigative feature you are most proud of. Your work is the filter. (We pay Rs 40k flat fee per story.) Putting out this open call to find talented reporters beyond my immediate network. I've done this kind of work, and I'll guide you through the process of reporting and writing. (It'll be fun and rewarding.) PS: List of ideas includes investigations on food safety and regulation, revisionist history/anatomy of a scam(s), home buyers and RERA, and a wide multi-lens exploration of environmental issues. And of course, feel free to pitch your own ideas as well! :)
🗞️Friends, some news: On World Press Freedom Day, excited to share that I'm starting The Plank—a new magazine to help our readers become better citizens. Here is our manifesto/pitch call: theplank.co/pitch-call Send me story ideas. Can you please share/RT? Thank you!

The National Green Tribunal took suo-motu cognisance of the @IndianExpress report which highlighted that over 21,000 trees were felled in Mumbai to make way for various infra projects between 2018-23. The NGT has sought responses from #BMC, #MPCB for the depleting green cover.
Data accessed by @IndianExpress from @mybmc under RTI act shows that between 2018 & 2023, 21,028 trees were felled for making way for several infrastructure projects in Mumbai. The data also reveal the survival rate of transplanted trees is 22%. Follow the link for full story.
