NYT: 'How Bad Is Another Case of Covid?' “Every time there’s a wave, there’s another wave that’s going to follow with patients developing new onset long Covid,” said Akiko Iwasaki, an immunologist at Yale University nytimes.com/2026/10/19/well/…

This is the very reason why ME/CFS and Long Covid have not been taken seriously by medical community and institutions 💩
“Women with autoimmune conditions are up to 74% more likely than men to be told their symptoms are psychological or psychosomatic, and face much longer waits for a diagnosis and treatment.” theguardian.com/society/2026…

Researchers tested 30 Long COVID patients with brain and mood symptoms and found reactivation of a commonly overlooked virus in 80% of them vs. 30% in older lab records, making the pattern strong enough to justify how viral reactivation and specifically HH7 relates to Long Covid's neurological and psychiatric symptoms. Diane Ducret and Tatjana Mijatovic, publishing in Viruses, reviewed diagnostic blood tests for human herpesvirus 7 (HHV-7), a very common virus that infects most people early in life and then lies dormant and occasionally reactivates when the immune system is stressed. All 30 patients had been tested within two years of a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID) infection and reported lasting brain fog, memory trouble, anxiety, panic, or sleep disruption, and 76.7 percent of them showed active HHV-7 in their blood. Only 29.1 percent of 320 people tested before the pandemic showed the same thing in archived records, a gap the authors call statistically clear. The historical group was not matched to the long COVID patients by age or health status, and the long COVID patients sought testing themselves after hearing about herpesvirus reactivation in patient communities, so selection bias is possible. All six patients tested within a year of infection were positive, and virus levels among positives ran well above the lab's detection cutoff, arguing against a fluke reading. Among HHV-7-positive patients, 91.3 percent reported anxiety or panic symptoms, while HHV-7-negative patients in the same group did not show this pattern consistently; the symptoms were self-reported rather than clinically diagnosed. One patient tracked for over two years showed viral levels rising as her symptoms worsened to the point that hospitalization was considered, then falling toward zero alongside symptom improvement after antiviral treatment, though the drugs caused side effects and were later stopped. The authors call this a temporal association and stop short of claiming the virus caused her illness. Most prior work on herpesvirus reactivation after COVID focused on severely ill hospitalized patients during the acute infection. Ducret and Mijatovic's study instead targets lingering symptoms afterward and marks HHV-7 specifically as a candidate worth investigating in long COVID's neurological and psychiatric symptoms. The authors call their findings hypothesis-generating and say larger, matched, prospective studies are needed before HHV-7 could be considered a biomarker or treatment target. mdpi.com/1999-4915/18/9/1043

COVID is the main driver in the increase of unemployment. I was 21, starting my career in aerospace engineering, when I was infected by COVID-19 - that ended immediately. I am now 25 and still unable to work a normal job. I am 1 in millions with this exact story.

CDC sent me the 2025 NHIS data this week, and one number stuck with me. 8.7 million American adults were living with Long COVID in 2025. That's 1 in 30 of us. It's easy to stop seeing a crisis once it stops being new. It's still happening. cdc.gov/nchs/nhis/documentat…

R.E.D. Laboratories studied 30 people with neurological Long COVID. HHV-7 was PCR positive in 77%, versus 29% in a historical pre-COVID lab cohort. The signal suggests herpesvirus reactivation may contribute, but does not prove cause. mdpi.com/1999-4915/18/9/1043

Herpesvirus reactivation has been hanging over Long COVID and ME/CFS for years. Prusty’s group, for example, has linked HHV-6/7 biology to antiviral signaling and mitochondrial fragmentation. Now HHV-7 itself is showing up remarkably strongly in neurological Long COVID. Diane Ducret and Tatjana Mijatovic tested 30 patients with neurological/neuropsychiatric Long COVID. 23/30, or 76.7%, had quantifiable HHV-7 DNA in blood, compared with 29.1% of 320 pre-COVID laboratory samples. Most positive patients were above 250 copies per million cells, reaching as high as 2,025. The longitudinal case is even more intriguing. HHV-7 was undetectable before COVID, then rose from 140 → 205 → 329 copies/million cells as neurological and neuropsychiatric symptoms worsened. After antiviral treatment it fell to 96 and eventually zero, alongside substantial clinical improvement. This is a small retrospective cohort with historical rather than matched controls, so the 76.7% frequency needs replication. But the phenomenon itself deserves attention: herpesvirus activity in LC/ME is not an abstract theory anymore. HHV-7 now joins HHV-6 and EBV as another latent virus showing measurable post-COVID activation, with a plausible route into immune and neurological dysfunction. doi.org/10.3390/v18091043

Due to my own struggles, I've read a lot of the research on what COVID does to the brain...its not pretty. I'm really concerned that as a society we went through a mass brain damage event. And most people are just walking around with short circuits that they aren't being treated for and aren't acknowledging.

An intriguing book, rich in historical and philosophical references especially the ancient Spartan concept of "eunomia". And perhaps, every now and then, it’s wise to let women hold the reins of power.@dianeducret
