📣New blog post alert 📣
Do you know... Who dies of old age? When Queen Elizabeth II passed away in 2022, her death certificate cited "old age". But how common is death from old age now, and in the past?

If a relative was born, married or died in Scotland in 1855, you may be in luck - it’s the golden year of genealogy!
1855 was the first year of civil registration and much more information was recorded than in subsequent years.

ALT Death entry of architect James Gillespie Graham, 21 March 1855, aged 78 years. The entry in the register of deaths for Heriot and Warrison in the City of Edinburgh covers two pages. It records that he had lived in the area for 15 years, that his father had been sheriff substitute in Dunblane and that his mother's name was Jane Stewart. The names of his three children from his first marriage are listed. His address is given as 15 Castle Street and his place of burial as Greyfriars Churchyard.

Our final message for #LoveData24 comes from our historical demographer Eilidh, who is working as part of the #SHiPP team that hopes to create a methodology to gather historical data on Scotland's population from 1855, and then link that to health, education or other social data.
