At the 2026 United States Grand Prix, Max Verstappen was engineered by Tom Hart, who is set to take over from Gianpiero Lambiase as the Dutchman's race engineer in 2027. Laurent Mekies, team principal of Red Bull Racing, addressed Hart's first weekend as Race Engineer for Max, saying: "Look, I think he [Tom Hart] did an excellent job. And you see me smiling because I think I certainly remember what it is like to be on your first race as a race engineer. And he picked a fairly complicated race to do that, but that was not his choice. But joke aside, I think he really did an excellent job. First qualifying, first race, he has managed to channel very well the work of the engineering teams behind him, and to Max. And of course, the race was a complicated race, and we are probably a bit frustrated with the P3, which is good news. But I really think he did an excellent job, and he was very well supported by GP [Lambiase] as well in the background. And, I'm sure, as you said, you cannot recreate a relationship in no time. But I have every confidence that we are going to see him ramping up and building that relationship with Max. So, you are talking about the review and so on. As part of our plan, we will alternate Tom and GP to the end of the year. It's a combination of other considerations, what we do with FP1 drivers and so forth and so on.
