If I owned a restaurant doing serious volume on delivery apps, I wouldn't leave them. I'd just stop letting them own the entire customer relationship. Third-party delivery platforms are useful. A card company buying restaurant tables. Most people saw three headlines. I saw one question. Why does a payments company want to own the booking? Because the table is where the spend starts. Before a card is ever swiped, someone chose a restaurant, a time, a party of four. Whoever owns that moment owns the data, the relationship, the margin. They were buying the front door to every restaurant in America and Europe. Nobody was building ours. That is what made me sick. Not the news. The silence around it. So I said it. Publicly.
