For the many new followers: we are a passion project that started as a business info content creator, then the market told us that we are actually - for lack of a better analogue - Australia's Joe Rogan in that we are good at being curious and talking warmly w/ all sides.
I lost 57 kg (125 lb), and I still eat chocolate every single day.
Every food tracking app wants to put you on a diet. I’m not interested. I don’t use MACRO to count calories. I use it to understand my body: why I’m hungry, why I’m flat, when I’m coming down with a virus before I feel it.
My wife ran out of calories by lunchtime and was still starving. One button in my MACRO app copied her last four weeks into her own ChatGPT. She asked it one question, and it saw what neither of us could.
There's no AI inside MACRO. Only your AI, if you want it. Your data stays on your phone.
What’s the food question you’d ask ten times a day? Mine’s about chocolate. And it never judges me or gets tired calculating how much more chocolate I can eat and keep losing fat!
MACRO by Discernable: a calorie and macro tracker I built for one person, me. 21 days free, then $20 AUD once. No subscription, no account.

The bar is SO low when it comes to fitness and looks for the suburban dad.
At 40, random strangers are now complimenting me on my body and that I must workout a lot.
Im not particularly muscly or lean (yet). I'm still medically 'obese'.
In any group thaylt actually cares about their looks, Im pretty low ranked.
But 40 yr old Australian dads are in such bad shape, that somehow I've entered 'exceptional'.
This is both sad and exciting. My fellow dads: to stand out from the average bloke, the bar is so low it's on the floor.
You could get your eyebrows shaped, exfoliate your face once a quarter, eat a bit more protein, and lift something heavy (near failure) every other day and within 6 months you'll be exceptional too. Sooner, even.
For those waiting on the Manifesto that will change your life, excavate your buried self, shed the weight and the endless coping mechanisms and masks, it will be here for January 2027.

After the book I'll run workshops and support groups.
Brace yourself for the LAST 'out of control' holiday period you will ever have to endure.
This ends, for good this time.
With love, from Alexander!
I wrote this song because I fell through a roof.
I was up there blowing off leaves, walking the screw/joist line like you're supposed to, and the roof gave way anyway. One storey down, head first onto a concrete slab.
Once a floor betrays you, your body stops trusting them. I still feel uneasy on roofs now, and every step has become a bet.
But lying on that slab in blood, looking up, I noticed something profound. The roof failed, but the ground didn't. Yes it hurt me, but it held.
I've built many things in my life and they all have failure points. The ground is different. It was here four billion years before me, and it isn't going anywhere.
So now I have this picture in my head of the ground holding me up, wherever I walk.
I don't have to hold it all together, because I'm the one being held.

A calf turned up on a farm where every male is castrated.
My prime suspect licked my hand and said nothing, so he went in the cool room.
Then Brad from Knightsy's Mobile Butcher read the evidence.
Turns out I'd destroyed the most important evidence. His verdict wasn't the one I wanted.
Yep, One Nation are now no longer responding to emails and SMS and seemingly rescinding their commitments to appear?
Looks like they are closing ranks and will NOT be doing any long forms with me.
I guess you just have to trust they are not the exact same as the LiberalLabor duopoly.
Will they only sit down with friendly news outlets?
Should Australians trust One Nation?
She Called for Help 49 Times. They Blamed the Doctor (Dr Sean Runacres)
Dr Sean Runacres was the prison doctor who assessed Veronica Nelson on New Year's Eve 2019. Thirty-six hours later she was dead. The coroner found he had set in train the events that led to her death, and the headlines called him the doctor who killed an Aboriginal woman.
Sean was one of several health professionals who saw Veronica in custody. On the night she died, she called for help 49 times and was told to be quiet and go to sleep. So why is he the one carrying the blame?
We go through what he saw, what he wrote down and what he didn't, why the medical board reached a different view of his care than the coroner, and what being publicly named has cost him: work, finance and his reputation. He also says what he'd do differently.
It's a hard conversation about a tragic death, and about a system that, in Sean's words, needs someone to blame: "As a doctor, I'm expendable. We've just proven it."

An observation and prediction about One Nation:
- The more One Nation feels that they can become a "major" party, the more they will act like a "major" party.
- The more One Nation acts like a "major" party, the more they will look like a "major" party.
- The more One Nation looks like a "major" party, the more their current supporters will become disillusioned with One Nation.
An important evident fact about One Nation is that, at their heart, they are not substantially different from almost every other political party. They are motivated by the same thing as Labor, Liberals, Greens, Family First, People First, Community Strong, etc.. One Nation, like almost every other political party, wants power over the Australian Government (want to be the Australian Government) so they can use the forceful arm of that government to implement the changes they want.
The changes One Nation currently wants may be changes you want, and they may be changes Australia needs. But, fundamentally, One Nation will behave the same way as almost every other political party to get and use power. So, what happens after One Nation has got that power, has implemented the changes you want, but now One Nation (like every other political party) wants to keep that power and can not resist the urge to keep using that power?
This is why is it almost inevitable that One Nation, as they rise in political influence, will come to look and behave just like every other "major" political party.

p.s. The "you" I refer to in this post is not aimed at @discernableco. The "you" I refer to is those who are currently supporting One Nation.
One Nation candidates are cancelling their interviews with me, which honestly is probably in their best interest.
Last time around I interviewed their candidates and they were disastrous.
Probably wise to muzzle them this time but a shame we won't get to see them in longform.
Are you smarter than a demon?

My fences cost more than my animals earn
I built my fence line hard against the bush to squeeze out a bit more pasture. Now a tree comes through it about every fortnight, and each one costs me half a day and a new post.
Down in the gully the ground has dropped away under the posts, and the sheep have been crawling under into paddocks they were never meant to reach.
Nobody told me where to put it. Fence posts move. They don’t stay where you put them.

A bowed head, lit from below.
Hundreds of millions of faces, every evening, bent over the same glow.

I'm FREE!
Free at last.
And it feels gooooooood. They tried HARD to keep me with a heavily discounted AUD$200 per year for the full pro suite. But no, this is my chance.

When this bill was first drafted, it explicitly sought to allow the government of the day to unilaterally decide what is harmful on a case-by-case basis.
That power was removed after immense public pressure - but the government treated this change as a political inconvenience, rather than a serious problem.
The ability for the government of the day to push out its own propaganda through anonymous accounts remains in the introduced version of the bill.
So at best, Anika Wells hasn’t even read the contents of her own proposal.
At worst, she’s blatantly lying because she has no sound response to this basic concern.
Somewhere in between is the possibility she doesn’t understand her own legislation.
Remember this all started with the banning of a handful of apps for under 16s less than a year ago.
In that short time, we’ve gone from trying to stop kids doomscrolling at school to trying to control what every adult in Australia can and can’t see online.
The only thing more dangerous than giving dumb people these powers is giving them to dumb people who think they’re good.
Labor Communications Minister Anika Wells will stop at nothing to get this Digital Duty of Care law in place.
Her response is patently, knowingly false. The legislation is explicit that government agents would not be bound by law.
Labor is giving themselves licence to engage in illegal activity. This is absolute treason.
Notice also how she speaks with absolute certainty the bill will pass?
Criminal charges must be laid if this law comes to be. @shellenberger @AusLobby

Wow, wow, wow. I just left the National Press Club where Minister of Communications @AnikaWells spoke. She repeatedly and brazenly lied about the fake accounts, claiming they were only for enforcement, even though the legislation says in black and white that the eSafety Commissioner can use them in unlimited ways for "educational" and "promotional" purposes.
One big moment came when a Politico reporter got up and said something about how mean people like @PaulineHansonOz were to eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman-Grant. Seriously. A supposed reporter was white-knighting for a government official during the official Q&A. The same reporter had come up to me before Wells' speech and asked if I had criticized Inman-Grant. Who needs government censors when you have Politico?
After he asked his question, Wells showed the most emotion, describing online criticism of Inman-Grant as "abuse." She also talked about her own staff's supposed suffering. I kid you not. The mask dropped, and you could see what really upset her: people — including a sitting Senator — criticizing government officials.
After gaslighting the audience about fake accounts, Wells repeatedly insisted the government wasn't trying to censor content. She said this after filling her speech with examples of content she claimed harmed people. You couldn't make it up.
This legislation is the culmination of decades of progressives equating words with physical violence. Wells cynically compared her legislation to prevent psychological "harm" to various laws that protect people from physical harm, like seat belt laws.
BTW, Wells never said what content it was that she thought caused eating disorders. Pictures of skinny women? Dietary advice? Who knows. Nobody asked.
Another important moment came when Wells explicitly said Australia would be pursuing censorship alongside other nations, including the UK, France, and Spain—all countries where governments risk losing power to populists.
I spoke with Julie Inman-Grant before the speech began and asked about the fake accounts. She insisted they were there just for enforcement, and when I asked why the law allowed them to be used for government propaganda, she said she might write an "enforcement memo," which, of course, would have no impact on the legislation.
After her speech, I went up to Wells and asked if she was seriously saying the legislation didn't allow the government to use fake accounts for government propaganda. She refused to answer. A man who said he was from the National Press Club stepped in front of me and said I could interview her afterward. But that wasn't possible because they rushed her out the back to avoid any difficult questions.
So there you have it. The pettiest people in Australia are seeking to silence citizens and their political opponents in the name of protecting children. These deeply intolerant and cynical people want to control what you can see and say online. And they're doing it with most of the media's support. Australia has reached a new low in its rapid descent into dogmatism, intolerance, and censorship.
The government today will introduce sweeping censorship that @AlboMP & @AnikaWells lie about. Below she claims the government wants to create a bot army of fake accounts for “research” when the bill clearly intends for them to be used in partisan warfare against fooled citizens.
There's no bull in this paddock.
Then my daughter asked the obvious question. Where did the calf come from?
I had a stern word with one of the steers.
My mum made me write a shopping list for God. Yachts. Ferraris. Helicopters. Mansions. Fat bank accounts.
She was a 'name it and claim it' Pentecostal who treated God like a vending machine.
The list went on the fridge, and every time we walked past we had to pray over it, willing it into reality. Believe hard enough, say the right words, and the goods get dispensed.
But here's what I notice: after rain, a puddle can hold an entire sunset. Nobody ordered that. Nobody paid for it. It came with the rain.
The flowers around the farm carry patterns in ultraviolet that only bees can see. Beauty no human was ever meant to watch.
I don't think we live in a world of lack.
We live in a world that's ridiculously over-built.
That's why I wrote this song. To remind myself that the extravagance isn't the icing on life, the extra you get once the real work is done. It was there from the start.
My mum had me praying to God for more.
But He'd already gone overboard.
