Almost always as the tight end stopper, DJ Ivey has played 99 third down snaps in the NFL (including 49 this year). On third downs, Ivey has never allowed a first down catch. He has only allowed two career first down catches altogether in his total career 178 snaps in the NFL, and they were both deep in garbage time in Miami. Yesterday, Ivey guarded Cardinals star Trey McBride (now the single-season leader in receptions by an NFL tight end) on four of the five third down passes from Arizona during the competitive part of the game (three quarters). McBride wasn’t targeted on those plays, keeping up the trend of Ivey eliminating tight ends (McBride actually got a first down catch on the one third down where he saw zone coverage).
