If we keep saving daylight, it will learn complacency and it will never be self-sufficient. I think it’s high time we gave daylight the opportunity to pull itself up by the bootstraps and save itself.

That American citizens are significantly less likely to receive disaster relief if they live in states that didn't vote for the regime in power should be treated as a major scandal.
Seven months ago, there was a big conversation about whether Trump was denying blue states FEMA aid for partisan reasons. Since May, there have been 57 more disaster relief decisions. Requests from blue states are still 2.8x more likely to be rejected than from red states.

A sitting governor exchanged 1,400 intimate and embarrassing emails with the world's richest man, then gave him about $2 billion in tax breaks. State law bans the governor from preventing sitting legislators from seeing those public records. Greg Abbott did it anyway.
A sitting House member demanded the Governor’s records a month before Election Day, then fundraised off the request. State law bans legislators from using their office for personal benefit. Gina Hinojosa did it anyway.

.@jamestalarico: The problem with Ken Paxton is not that he didn't grow up in Texas. It's that he doesn't understand Texas. I believe anyone can be a Texan. It doesn't matter if you're an 8th generation Texan like me, or if you just got here. What makes a Texan is deep in the heart. Texas used to be known as the friendly state. Friendship is our official state motto. The word Texas comes from a Native American word for 'friend.' They used that word to describe a friend in a different tribe. Friendship across tribes. Friendship across divisions. That's what makes Texas so great.

It should never be forgotten that Ken Paxton was a leader in the coup to nullify the election of Joe Biden. He filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court to challenge the 2020 election results in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan and Wisconsin even though he was the AG for Texas. His suit was quickly tossed by the Court. On January 7th Paxton claimed the insurrection of the previous day was the work of antifa. This lie was quickly disproven. On the 7th 46 state attorneys general disavowed the violence of the 6th in a letter to the Acting Attorney General of the U.S. A few days later three more AGs sent their own letter in condemning the violent insurrection. Only Ken Paxton failed to sign either letter.

Talarico: This election is a battle between the powers that be and the powers that ought to be. The powers that be have chosen their candidate. They have bought and paid for Ken Paxton.  But we are standing with the powers that ought to be the teachers and the nurses, the farmers and the ranchers. The grandmother who is facing eviction, the little boy who's waking up in the middle of the night from the lights of the data center, the small business owner, who is struggling to keep his family restaurant open. Those Texans are my team.  They are why I'm in this race. I want to be a senator for every Texan who can't afford one. You want to know why they are spending $200 million against me? Because I don't take their money, and I never will. I don't work for them. I work for you

So let met get that straight: paying a wealth tax is impossible (“billionaires have no liquidity”, “it would be taxing unrealized gains”, “their wealth is virtual”) but paying half a billion to influence elections is possible. Did I understand well?
Elon Musk has cemented his record as the largest individual political donor in modern American history. Musk poured $446 million of his own money into this year’s midterm elections, mostly aimed at preserving the Republican Party’s control of Congress. wapo.st/4igb5Kq

NEW AD: Have you seen these anti-Talarico attack ads? Elon Musk paid for nearly all of them. The world's first trillionaire knows if he drags the most corrupt politician in Texas across the finish line, Ken Paxton will owe him everything. @ElonMusk: Texas is not for sale.

A governor’s only priority should be making life better for Ohioans. That’s why I sold all of my individual stocks over 6 months ago so that no Ohioan would ever have to worry about where my priorities lie. Meanwhile, Vivek Ramaswamy has refused to sell his holdings in data centers and other industries Ohio’s governor will be responsible for regulating. Ramaswamy is only out for himself. The longer he refuses to put Ohioans before his own stock portfolio, the clearer that becomes.

As an illegal alien who came here to loot and plunder, I’d like to file a formal complaint with the Department of Looting, because eleven years in, I have yet to receive any loot. Let me walk you through my plunder. I roof houses in Austin. In August. A black-shingle roof at 3 p.m. is the closest a living man can get to the surface of Mercury without a NASA budget, which, incidentally, I also help pay for. My plunder arrives every other Friday, minus federal withholding, minus Social Security, minus Medicare. I did an inventory of everything I’ve looted from the American taxpayer: one Honda Odyssey with 214,000 miles and a check-engine light that has been on longer than I’ve been in the country, a tool belt, a back that sounds like bubble wrap, and a daughter who is a U.S. citizen. That’s the haul. Al Capone would be ashamed of me. Here’s how my criminal enterprise works. The number on my W-2 doesn’t match anything in Baltimore, so my Social Security taxes go into the Earnings Suspense File. I think of it as my 401(k), except the k stands for “kept.” My money goes in, my name never comes out, and the cash pays the retirement of my neighbor Dale. Dale and I are both middle-class taxpayers. The difference is that someday Dale will get a check, and I will get a letter. In 2022, people like me put about $26 billion into Social Security and $6 billion into Medicare, programs we can’t touch. If that’s fraud, it’s the first scam in history where the con man Venmos the mark. I can’t get SNAP. I never could. I’ve been trying to commit welfare fraud for over a decade, and the system rejects me on page one. My cousin came the legal way, as a refugee, with a file so thick it has its own zip code, and last year Congress took his food stamps to fight fraud. The fraud was him eating. He’s now on what I call the Freedom Diet: three jobs, zero lunches. My daughter was born in Austin in 2025. She’s fifteen months old, eats exclusively shredded cheese, and is as American as a brisket line at 6 a.m. Congress gave every newborn citizen $1,000 in a Trump Account, unless a parent lacks a valid Social Security number, so her first investment portfolio got stopped at the border of her own crib. Same with the child tax credit. A one-year-old is being sanctioned for her father’s paperwork. She can’t say “Dada” yet, but she’s already learned “inadmissible.” Meanwhile, I pay sales tax on every diaper and property tax baked into my rent. In 40 of 50 states, people like me pay a higher state and local tax rate than the top 1 percent. Somewhere in Westlake, a man with a family office pays a smaller share than the guy who shingled his pool house. That man has a guy who handles his taxes. So do I. Mine carries a rifle. That’s because last year I filed honestly, with my ITIN, on time, like the world’s most incompetent plunderer, and the IRS thanked me by passing my file to ICE. A federal court later ruled the arrangement violated privacy law. As far as I know, I’m the only taxpayer in America who gets a home visit for filing early. So I tried to report myself. I called the fraud hotline and said, “I’m the scammer Stephen was talking about, please come take your money back.” I was on hold for four hours. They transferred me to Medicare, which I fund and can’t use. The hold music was a recording thanking me for my contribution. Here’s my final audit. I pay in and can’t take out. My kid gets docked for my sins, my refugee cousin gets put on a diet for his paperwork, my tax return doubles as an ankle monitor, and every April I fund the retirement of the man on TV calling me a parasite. If this is looting, I want to speak to the manager of looting. I’ve been informed the manager is unavailable, currently live on cable news, and that my complaint has been forwarded to ICE. Please hold. Your plunder is important to us.
.@StephenM: "If you're a middle class taxpayer in this country, before President Trump came along, you spent half your working life paying for fraudsters and scammers — many of whom are refugees, illegal aliens, and foreigners who came to this country to loot and plunder us."

Texas was built by hope. By people who had no business believing — but believed anyway. To every Texan who’s ever wondered if anyone in power is paying attention: We are taking our state back. Because a little bit of hope is a dangerous thing.
