This is a classic case of where a) reciprocal agreements need to exist in the DMV to ensure laws are enforced and b) the new DC law putting GPS-enabled speed governors in the cars of reckless speeders needs to be used. It was just luck that no one was killed here.

In 2025, OAG sued 24 of the most dangerous drivers.
Combined, these drivers had accumulated 4,535 traffic violations and $1,479,556 in traffic fines in DC alone.
In 2026, we will continue STEER Act enforcement to send a clear message that reckless driving will not be tolerated.

A positive 2025 trend: safer DC streets.
In our first year enforcing the STEER Act against dangerous out-of-state drivers, traffic fatalities in DC decreased by 52% in 2025 — a 13-year low.
Together with DDOT, MPD, DMV, and DPW, we are making our roads safer for all road users.

There's a crisis on our roadways. We lose as many people to vehicle crashes as we do to gun violence in this country—about 40,000 people a year.

Hoboken, New Jersey is a dense city center that hasn’t had a traffic death in over 4 years. They’ve accomplished this by creating more narrow, one-way streets, high visibility crosswalks, raised intersections, curb extensions, bike & bus lanes, and removing parking spaces.

Vitalii Merinov, four-time world champion in kickboxing, champion of Ukraine, died defending Ukraine.
Vitalii went to war on the first day of the full-scale invasion. He had a shrapnel wound, then returned to the frontlines after getting better but died in hospital after new injuries.
