"No matter who you are, or where you are from, you can walk into any library in the country and ask for help. In return you will be asked for precisely nothing" Great start to the Lords debate from Baroness Sanderson. parliamentlive.tv/event/inde…

I would really love it if the big IT outage thing turned out to be caused by a group of cyberwarrior pensioners who learned hacking from the Monday afternoon group at the library and are sick of seeing the local bank branches and Post Offices close down

Public libraries are a vital hub for communities nationwide, yet in Stockport the Council is reducing staffed opening hours. This threatens to leave many people isolated and without access to these critical services. My question to the Leader of the House today👇🏽

Ahead of the polling stations opening tomorrow, let's remind parliamentary candidates just how #LibrariesChangeLives in sometimes small, but always significant ways. "Part of the magic of a library... is its capaciousness as social infrastructure." theguardian.com/news/article… 1/3

The long read: In 2024, libraries are unofficial creches, homeless shelters, language schools and asylum support providers – filling the gaps left by a state that has reneged on its responsibilities

‘A daily Blantyre patron, the type who comes to count as a friend, confided that every day was a choice for him between ‘the library and the bookies’. Both warm. Both enticing. Both open. What fate awaits him now that choice is taken away?’ @CILIPScotland cilips.org.uk/dear-blantyre-…

With the devastating news of 6 Library Closures in South Lanarkshire, @GGallerina has reflected on her experience of patron to librarian. Saying "Blantyre Library was the first branch I ever worked in. I wouldn’t be a librarian without it." 💙 Read here: cilips.org.uk/dear-blantyre-…

It feels like a long time since we’ve had to shade our eyes from the sun! Excited pupils at @LennoxPSELCC welcomed the spring like weather with a visit from our mobile library yesterday. Lots of exploring, fun, & brilliant books chosen. Now that’s what we call a good day! ☀️📖🚐

Sure, I go to the library for books, but also sometimes I go just to exist in a space that's welcoming, organized, comfortable, judgement-free, and run by knowledgeable, helpful, passionate people, because that energy is straight up medicinal.

When you arrive at the doors of the #library, it doesn't ask where you came from or why you're there. It doesn't ask you to prove you're worthy of admission. It recognises your basic humanity, welcomes you in and empowers you. I wish they made countries like they make #libraries
