Good opportunity to sponsor and get your brand in front of a ton of marketers and those who buy domains regularly (for themselves and for their clients).
And you get a directory listing as well.
We have a few Sponsor spots left for the @State_of_Search conference Oct 19th in Dallas.
If you're a tool provider or agency, you might consider sponsoring. A sponsorship also includes a listing in our upcoming directory, so you'll get a link as well.

Branded vs. Non-Branded keywords and why you should be buying keyword-rich domains.

Here's something interesting about owning a generic, keyword-rich domain name.
My website, SearchEngines.net, gets most of its Google search clicks from queries that Google Search Console classifies as branded.
In fact, 77% of my clicks are classified as branded traffic, compared with just 23% classified as non-branded.
But look at the top actual search queries in the data:
search engines
search engine
best search engine
web search engine
all search engines
search engine directory
directory of search engines
most used search engines in the world
These are generic search phrases. They're not necessarily searches for a company or brand.
Of course, some queries, such as "searchengines" and "search engine net," could indicate that someone is specifically looking for my website.
But that's what makes this interesting.
When your domain name is also a generic keyword, the distinction between a branded search and a non-branded search can get blurry.
With a new website on a company-name domain, you typically have to build brand recognition over time. You also have to earn visibility for the generic keywords relevant to your business.
With a domain like SearchEngines.net, the domain itself matches the generic search terms people use.
Is it possible for a generic, keyword-rich domain to make branded traffic reporting look very different from what we'd expect?

So true... think before you post.
I see so many friends posting and it's as if they didn't think about what they're posting or the how it's going to come across when others see it.
You're being judged on everything that you post.
Everything.
You're "on the unofficial ballot" so to speak.
That's exactly what my book's about.

EMD domains still work. #domains
Google shipped an update targeting exact match domains in 2012. The industry has called them dead ever since.
In today's ranking factors survey, Shai Aharony: "I'm just as surprised as everyone else by how effective EMDs are still."
I'm not surprised.

The @Namecheap outage highlights an really important issue that a lot of us don't think of:
For risk management purposes, you should generally not be relying on one company as your Registrar, DNS, and web hosting.
Spread it out amongst 3 companies for less risk.
Our new site DevelopedDomains.com is a resource for developing a domain name.

I downloaded twenty years of my own backlink data and ran a survival analysis on it. 1,301,839 links. 22,260 referring domains. Not one of them bought (I don't pay for links).
Three things came out that I did not expect.
First: the median referring domain stops linking after 1,080 days. Just under three years. Half of everything I have ever earned is already gone. That is not a failure — it is what links do. But it means a link building program that stops is not a program that plateaus. It reverses.
Second: links from strong domains last about four times longer than links from weak ones. @Majestic Trust Flow 61+ domains hold a link for a median of 9.2 years. Trust Flow 0 domains manage 2.4. We price links on the authority they pass today and completely ignore how long they will exist. Cheap links are cheap twice over.
Third, and this is the one that changed how I think about reclamation:
97.4% of my lost links disappeared while the source page was still perfectly reachable. Four links out of 645,202 were lost to a 404.
Links do not die because pages die. They die because someone edited the page, or redesigned the site, or migrated the CMS.
The page is still there. The editor is still there.
That is a warm prospect, not a dead one — and it means monitoring for 404s to catch link loss catches essentially nothing.
