The Wests Tigers made a secret $9 million bid for Nathan Cleary, in a package deal that would have seen partner Mary Fowler join the Central Coast Mariners.
The joint offer was worth about $3 million a season combined over three years. Holman Barnes owns both the Tigers and the Mariners' A-League Women side.

"Beautiful football backup field, all started by Cement Gillespie!"
Daniel Gartner finishes off another quality long range try by the Sea Eagles - this time v Parramatta in '94 - with David Gillespie and Steven Menzies combining to put Craig Hancock in the clear and the winger found David O'Donnell in support and his inside pass to Gartner is a beauty.
Thoroughly entertaining footy by Manly.

What a cracking bloke was Paul Langmack. Versatile and tough on the field and a gregarious personality off it. Never a dull moment with Paul. The @NRL has lost a classic. Condolences to family and friends.

The Rugby League community is mourning the passing of three-time premiership winner, NSW State of Origin representative and 1986 Kangaroo tourist Paul Langmack.
Executive Chairman Peter V’landys AM has today paid tribute, “Paul was a larger-than-life character,” Mr V’landys said. “You always knew ‘Langers’ was in the room. He was incredibly funny, hugely popular and passionate.
“As a player he was tough, but he had the skills as well. And he loved the game so much he just wanted to be involved in it, whether it be playing, coaching or, in recent years, working with the NSWRL in their community and mental health programs. He always wanted to help people."
Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and the countless fans who loved him.🤍

Seriously one of the best ball playing forwards we have ever seen, with an exceptional sharp mind for the game. Could read the game 5 minutes before anyone else. Won his first premiership at 19. Super fella. Very sad day. RIP 💔

Completely devastated to learn of Paul’s sudden passing this morning.
It’s such a huge loss.
Paul would contact me every day of the week about something to do with rugby league.
I’m going to miss those calls and messages.
I first met Paul when he was playing schoolboy football and I was invited to coach one of his teams. He later became a team mate as we played together at the Bulldogs in the early to mid 80s. In the end he took my position in the team. He was a much better player than me.
I later had the pleasure to coach Paul at the Bulldogs. He was a huge part of our Premiership success in 1988.
I coached him again at the Roosters at the end of his playing career.
Since that time he’s become a great mate, as he has been to so many people he associated with in rugby league over the years.
I’m particularly devastated for his sister Diane who has been my personal assistant for the past 15 years.
Diane called me early this morning with the terrible news. I love Diane so much and I’m devastated for her loss.
Paul worked with the NSWRL for many years supporting the game. In recent times he volunteered his time to so many Bulldogs community initiatives.
He was a larger than life character. So funny. Paul was energetic, bubbly and enthusiastic. He loved his rugby league. He was so loyal to his many teammates and ex coaches over the years. He loved them all.
Paul also started many mental health support programs to help young kids, plus both current and former players.
He would organise us all to visit schools to speak to kids and offer support to them and their families.
Paul was always thinking of other people. This is a significant loss to so many.
A true Bulldog. Thoughts are with his family and friends. 💙
