I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this Rising Star Award than Nuru Beyond his extraordinary scientific contributions, he is genuinely one of the most generous people in IBD. He constantly creates opportunities, gives visibility, and makes space for those of us who may not have the same support or opportunities He is leading an unprecedented shift in how clinical trials are designed, bringing a level of passion, vision, and endless energy that is truly inspiring I couldn’t be prouder of him, not only for what he is achieving, but for the way he brings others along with him. So well deserved!

Every IBD drug has a person behind it. A Swedish professor who designed sulfasalazine for rheumatism. A chemist who couldn't get a research post, largely because she was a woman, and went on to win a Nobel Prize. A virologist who left Czechoslovakia for a weekend in Vienna and never went back. A young Canadian who made the antibody that became vedolizumab, and died fifteen years before it was licensed. A century of IBD drugs, part 1: the people behind the discoveries. New on Atomic IBD. Who did I miss?

I don't know why this hasn't received more publicity, but this fifty-foot sculpture was unveiled recently in South Dakota. It's called 'Dignity' and was done by artist Dale Lamphere to honor the women of the Sioux Nation. Thank you for liking my post!

Today we mourn the loss of a true Lions legend, Fergus Slattery. A family man, a valued friend, and one of the 1974 Invincibles, Fergus was an inspiration both on and off the pitch. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Fergus 🕊️ lionsrugby.com/en/news/fergu…

This Memorial Day, I want to honor someone who wasn’t American, but a British colleague and brother-in-arms—Eddie Collins of the SAS. He died in my arms south of Baghdad on September 5, 2007, from a gunshot wound to the neck during a classified operation under Task Force Knight. Rest easy, brother. You were a warrior, a hero, and you won’t be forgotten.
