James Tibbs III hit his PCL leading 17th home run yesterday for AAA OKC, which is SUPER cool, but the "process" piece to this is the way he uses his hands. I've noted this before, but he has GREAT hands, and is VERY good at turning the barrel to match late movement. That allows him to let the ball get deeper, which improves swing decisions, which is big for him, because he has some swing & miss in his game. So, that part of it, many times, is the difference between being a slugger & a hitter, and he has been both to this point. #dodgers #dodgersprospects #jamestibbsIII

Noah Miller had 2 hits last night for AAA OKC. He also walked once, had an RBI, and scored a run. Miller has his average up to .271, OPS .801. Very good year to this point for Miller, needs to keep ringin' that cowbell and avoid any kind of extended "patches". #dodgers #dodgersprospects #noahmiller

The system has been on a Grand slam tear this week. Noah Miller had one for OKC, Sean McLain had one earlier for the Drillers, Ching-Hsein Ko had one for Ontario, and Elijah Hainline had one last night for the AA Tulsa Drillers. Hainline extended his hit streak to 5 games & he has an HR in 2 of his last 3 games. He's hitting .260 with an OPS of .865! #dodgers #dodgersprospects

I am SO fired up for Griffin-Lockwood Powell. He had 2 MORE hits last night, including his 8th double of the season, in which he tied into pretty good into left-center. Lock has his average up to .313, his OPS is up to .976, he has 4 multi-hit games in his last 5 played, and he's 10 for his last 20 with 4 doubles, 2 HRs, and 9 Ribeyes. Awesome job, GLP, keep going! #dodgers #dodgersprospects

Josue DePaula is making hitting AA pitching look WAY too easy. He had 3 hits last night & raised his average up to .310, OPS of .921, he has hits in 8 games in a row & he's 16 for his last 32 with 9 doubles in that span. He's 5th in the Texas League in Avg. & OBP, he's 7th in OPS (.921) & 10th in SLG (.505). #dodgers #dodgersprospects #josuedepaula

Anson Aroz had quite the night last night. He went 2 for 3 with his 3rd HR of the year, and his Oregon Ducks beat Wazzou to advance to the Regional Final. Wazzou and Oregon State play today for the right to face the Ducks in the Championship game. Elijah Hainline...Who you got? Of course, Hainline played for both Wazzou and OSU in College, so he'll have split allegiances there, I'm sure. Aroz raised his average to .313, OPS of .915. #dodgers #dodgersprospects

Javier Herrera had a GREAT night for Ontario, going 2 for 3 with 2 walks, 2 RBIs, and a run scored. Herrera is a switch-hitting 21-year-old infielder (played 2nd base last night) who is hitting .310 with an OPS of .927. Nice short, compact stroke! #dodgers #dodgersprospects

Easton Shelton...MY MAN...Keep THIS UP! And, when I say this, yes, the home runs are what I mean because Shelton hit HR#12 last night, and that leads the Cal League. But, beyond that, just the "great hitter" approach that is leading to the home runs is what needs to continue to steal the show. Last night's home run was to the opposite field gap, which means everything is connected, compact, and on time for a longer-levered type hitter. Shelton has hits in 18 of his last 19 games, and in his last 18 games, he has 27 hits in 64 at-bats (.421), with 4 doubles, 7 home runs, and 23 RBIs in that span. Wow! Heater! #dodgers #dodgersprospects

Jaron Elkins went big fly last night for Ontario for the 8th time this season, and he also had a stolen base, which was his 18th on the year, too. He's in the top ten in the Cal League in both of those categories, he's 13th in OBP (.399) & he's 4th in OPS at .962. Heckuva start, ULTRA talented. #dodgers #dodgersprospects

The Dodgers lost last night, but I've seen the Dodgers lose before, so one big takeaway for me is that Roki Sasaki looks like he's having a breakthrough. May Was His Best Stretch as a Major Leaguer 28.1 IP 3.18 ERA 28 K 6 BB 0.99 WHIP Opponents are hitting just .208 The biggest thing for me is that he's raising his floor. That's been a BIG goal of Wrobo is controlling the outings that aren't perfect, and Roki looks like he's starting to do that. Also, his strikeouts Are Trending Up. His K% is 22.5%, his chase rate is 31.5% (above average), his Whiff Rate is 28.9% (78th percentile), so he's getting hitters to swing more often and miss more often, and his raw stuff is beginning to translate into actual strikeouts. Also, his command Has Improved. He's throwing more first pitch strikes, he's throwing fewer non-competitive pitches, and his velocity is trending in the right direction, too. He's averaging 97.1 at the moment this year, which is a sight for sore eyes, and his BB% is 8.6% 4 Seam is still a concern because it's still getting hit, but his secondaries are missing bats, so that's giving him margin for error. If you split Sasaki's season into April and May, you almost see two different pitchers. Early Season Sasaki had inconsistent command, he was home-run prone, he had shorter outings, and his ERA was over 5. Current Sasaki is getting more strikeouts; he has better control, higher velocity, more diverse sequencing, a lower WHIP, and more efficient outings The biggest obstacle between Sasaki and becoming a frontline starter may be his 4 Seam. If he can get that pitch figured out, he likely takes a large jump in terms of the caliber of pitcher he becomes. #dodgers #rokisasaki

What a swing from Freddie Freeman...WOW! Freeman has one of the steeper swings in baseball, which means there's time where he lifts too soon, and that causes rollovers and jam shot fly balls to the opposite field. About a week ago, he mentioned that he started trying to "feel" like he was swinging up. Of course, that's not "really" what he was doing, in terms of start to finish, but that was the "feel" mechanism he used to stay longer through the ball on the front side. Down in back, flat in the middle, up in front, just classic mechanics from a hitter that can hit home runs, no question, but does so with a "great hitter" focus. Weight centered, meaning, he's not "leaning back" and creating an upward plane at the back of the swing. This is how Hall of Famers who want to be great hitters, beyond just hitting home runs, do it. It's NOT negotiable! Every player has different "triggers" or "feels" for how they get to or maintain these mechanics, but these elements are NOT negotiable. At least not for 99.9999% of the world/people/players that don't have such overwhelming athletic prowess where they can hit however they want and still overpower the best pitchers in the world. #dodgers #freddiefreeman

3 tremendous at-bats last night for Mookie Betts. Is this THE version we want to settle on with him? No, but what these at-bats do is they set a "floor". Once he sets a "hitterish" floor, he can then pair that with "hunting" for pullside power in situations or counts/matchups that allow for it. And when you become "hitterish," you tend to gather hits even when things aren't going perfectly, which shortens the "patches". I'll be shocked if the home runs don't start coming pretty frequently as long as he sticks with this approach. It puts YOU in control as the hitter, and when a Hall of Famer is in THAT mode, history gets made. LFG MOOKIE! #dodgers #mookiebetts

Lots to unpack with the INCREDIBLE day yesterday for GLP, Griffin Lockwood Powell. First, baseball gods shine on folks like him! He's worked SO hard, and he's such a GREAT worker and person, every time he has success it needs to be celebrated. Then, as per HOW he got there. The home run to Right-Center is just SO GLP. Like Freddie Freeman, when he's going well, his timing mechanism is to right-center/opposite field gap. That keeps him from getting jumpy, and, more/most importantly, it makes his swing LONG on the FRONT SIDE or THROUGH the ball. When bigger guys get to "pull" happy, they start cutting across the ball, which pushes them back behind the ball too much, they roll over, and it's easy ground ball after easy ground ball. So, to stay "through" the ball is not as easy for them as it is for hitters with shorter levers. Then, the pullside home run was on the outer half where he could get extended, then he stayed back on a breaking ball, all the while catching. Great year for GLP! He's hitting .306 with an OPS of .961 & he's 8 for his last 16. #dodgers #dodgersprospects

James Tibbs III went yard again last night in a pinch-hit situation and, after going 21 games in a row without a homer, has hit 4 in his last 4 games, which spans 17 at-bats. He leads the league with 15 dingers, he's 2nd in the PCL with a .658 SLG, also 2nd in OPS (1.076), he's 3rd in RBIs with 46, and he's 4th in walks drawn with 35. And, Dustin May is NOT still with Boston, nor would he have been with the Dodgers at this moment either. Just another reminder of how this machine is BUILT, to complement the ability this organization has to be BOUGHT as well. They work together, it's not just one or the other, it's both. #dodgers #dodgersprospects #jamestibbsIII

Tyler Fitzgerald had a VERY good night last night for AAA OKC. He was playing left field, to show his versatility, and made a really nice sliding catch early in the game. TFitz, as we know, has played quite a bit of shortstop and infield at the MLB level, so his versatility & experience are valuable as depth. TFitz then had added 2 hits, including an opposite field home run to his night as well, so SUPER pro night for him. #dodgers #dodgersprospects

Ryan Fitzgerald outscored Sugarland by HIMSELF last night with 2 home runs. The first home run he hit was against Hunter Brown, who was on MLB rehab, so that was cool. Average is at .329, OPS .901. He just KEEPS Rakin'! #dodgers #dodgersprospects
