Muse is built from the ground up for privacy and security. Your data and credentials live on the Muse Secure VM -- an isolated linux computer with a browser, CPU, memory, and storage.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The current Muse Secure VM isolates user data from other agents but Meta states it "does not prevent Meta from accessing data when necessary to support, secure or operate the service." The Confidential VM preventing Meta access is planned for later this year.

This was always going to happen. Our circles feel pretty chuffed about AISI – rightly, it is an exceptional example of state capacity in an area where the world is woefully underprepared. But we forget that AISI has no hard power.
The era of global voluntary agreements is fracturing. In this new world, access to frontier models for those outside the US will have to be earned, not presumed. Remember that vetted US organisations were given access to Mythos even as AISI was shut out!
If your vision of British sovereignty rests on the idea that AISI will somehow save us, you’re in for a harsh awakening.

Adam Silver should have to answer for this stuff. What’s the idea here? Just turn the league into barbarians at the gate so a few of his asshole friends can make more money? How do you explain this type of turnover?
Removing friction is how rich people end up losing agency and human IQ
It starts with Uber-everywhere, grocery delivery, all-inclusive holidays, then private driver, chef, assistant etc… without noticing you’re also removing exposure to reality
I see this in London with young ambitious professionals aka HENRYs (High Earners Not Rich Yet) trying to remove every tiny friction from life so they can focus on work + gym + sleep + money, while forgetting that a lot of the “inefficient” shit they’re deleting (cooking, walking somewhere, random talks etc) is also just… being a human in your 20s/30s
The thing is you’re not only saving time, you’re removing thousands of tiny reps of dealing with the world. Finding the place, fixing the booking, working out what to do when the train gets cancelled, asking someone for help, improvising because the plan is fucked. None of these makes you smarter on its own, but remove basically all of them for 10 years and I’d be surprised if it has zero effect. You can become incredibly high-agency at work while weirdly low-agency at normal life
It’s why so many high-agency rich people are deliberately paying to add friction back into their lives (difficult travel, long treks, sailing, marathons, remote places, silent retreats, climbing mountains, etc). They’ve understood that once comfort is abundant, difficulty becomes scarce. The luxury good eventually becomes optional hardship. The distinction is agency. Being forced to walk 10km because your car broke down sucks. Choosing to hike 20km in Patagonia feels meaningful
The way I think about it personally is just aggressively remove boring / repetitive friction, while keeping a decent amount of unpredictable friction. I’ll happily pay more for the direct flight, live centrally to kill a commute, outsource cleaning/admin, take the Uber if it genuinely saves 40 mins. A 15-min annoyance x300 a year is actually expensive. There is absolutely no hidden life lesson in doing your laundry for the 800th time or spending 2h getting somewhere you could reach in 30 mins
Think the objective of wealth shouldn’t be zero friction, but simply choosing your friction. Basically removing all the boring shit so you can expose yourself to more of the interesting stuff
This is probably controversial: I think using money to eliminate every minor inconvenience from your life is a negative in the long run.
There's a certain level of inconvenience that's just an important part of the human experience.
The smooth, textureless life is the forgotten life.
Experiencing friction is part of being human. Some of your most memorable life experiences are so memorable precisely because they had friction.
It's why you still laugh about the trip when your bags got lost by the airline and you had to wing it. When your flights got cancelled. When the hotel lost your reservation. When all your plans went awry.
And friction builds tolerance for the inevitable chaos of life.
I know so many people who have obsessively removed friction from their life and now seem to be utterly thrown by the tiniest thing.
They've got private planes, private drivers, and private chefs. People managing and staffing their various houses. All the trappings of a friction-free life. But then get absolutely derailed by the smallest unexpected bump in the road.
As with all things in life, when it comes to reducing friction, the dose makes the poison.
A little bit of friction reduction is good. You reduce your stress. You improve your happiness. A medium bit is maybe even better. But a lot becomes toxic to your life. Not diminishing returns. Negative returns.
Be wary of the blind pursuit of friction elimination.
You may find that the friction was what made your life feel real.

Why were only three blacks accepted this year into New York City’s competitive Stuyvesant High School? Because that is the number of blacks who passed the admissions test—a detail not even alluded to until the fifth paragraph of the New York Times story on this alleged scandal.
Why did only three blacks (out of 777 admittees) pass the admissions test?
Because, on average, blacks’ academic skills are so low. Nationally, the percentage of black 12th graders with advanced math skills is essentially zero on a national sample.
Why continue to point out this doleful reality, which most well-meaning Americans would rather ignore? Because unless we understand that the low representation of blacks in meritocratic institutions, whether Stuyvesant High School or NASA, is due to the academic skills gap and not to systemic racism, we will continue to sabotage civilizational progress.
(The next question: Why the persistent academic skills gap? This is the thorniest question of all.)

You slave at your AI startup for 10 years working 996 paying huge rents to live in S.F. only to hit the jackpot turning your paper money into a cool $5 million dollars.
Meanwhile these police officers raked in $5-6 million in that same time period while living in east bay, Reno, Arizona paying for a house that is 1/10th the cost and is 5x bigger.
And after they are done, they also earn a pension.

Perhaps the most disturbing element in the fantasy world of (ex)-Professor Jason Arday is not his proclivity to embellish his achievements (or lack thereof) in absurd ways that were easily exposed or Cambridge University’s facile complicity in his whole scam but that a reporter at Times Higher Education, who was looking into anomalies in Mr Arday’s dodgy CV, was subjected to a four-month police investigation for allegedly harassing him. The police need to be held to account for this abuse of police power to thwart a journalist from doing his job.

Stop comparing Leopold Aschenbrenner to Bill Hwang...
Hwang is the GOAT of degenerates and Leopold is a sheep compared to him
Did you know that Hwang turned $200M to $36B and it was ALL personal capital?
This guy literally led prayer circles in the conference room before trading days started
He had $160B stock exposure on just $36B of capital
His blowup happened in two days and he literally caused the collapse of one of the most prestigious investment banks
Banks lost a total of $10B combined because of his collapse
Leopold is nothing compared to Bill

Everyone is reacting to the videos from the Spanish enclave of Ceuta and asking what the hell is going on.
But the same pattern is unfolding across virtually every historically white, European-majority country in the world. Across Europe, the UK, Canada, the United States and Australia, there appears to be a clear and concerted effort to encourage both legal and illegal migration.
The result is even more pressure on housing, healthcare and public services that are already stretched. Meanwhile, native-born citizens are struggling financially and being asked to pay more and more to support large-scale migration they never voted for and, in many cases, clearly do not want.
Each of these countries has its own history, culture, language and social fabric. Citizens who want those things preserved are not hateful, and they should not be made to feel guilty for asking how many people their country can realistically absorb. Nor should they be afraid to ask why their own needs and future are constantly being placed behind those of new arrivals.
There is also an obvious question that very few leaders are willing to address. A large proportion of these arrivals are young men from societies where women often face severe discrimination, sexual abuse, forced marriage, child marriage, female genital mutilation and treatment as the property of men.
If the true priority is humanitarian protection, why are Western governments not doing far more to protect the vulnerable women and children trapped in those societies?
Why are the strongest and most mobile men being prioritized, while many of the women and girls most at risk are left behind with the same men and systems that subjugate them?
Why are European women expected to bear that social risk while citizens are told that even raising the question is unacceptable?
