In a time when many families are facing food insecurity — worsened by the ongoing government shutdown and the end of SNAP funding — we’re reminded how vital community support can be. This week, Don Lee Farms contributed funds and stepped up our food donations to help the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank serve families at the Kia Forum Food Distribution in Inglewood. For nearly 50 years, our family has been committed to nourishing communities — not just through the food we make, but through regular donations to food banks, schools, and local organizations that share our mission of making good food accessible to all. Don Lee Farms was chosen by LAUSD to bring the winning dish from this year’s Student & Celebrity Chef Showdown to life—a bold, Korean-inspired Bibimbap created by a talented high school student and selected by some of L.A.’s top chefs. LAUSD feeds over 400,000 students every day, making it the second-largest school district in the country. This program is more than a competition—it’s a platform for student voices, cultural expression, and real-world culinary experience. We were brought in to scale the dish and help turn it into a ready-to-serve school meal—staying true to the student’s original vision while making it accessible to kitchens across the district. Even better: the beef is raised in California, the dish is made in California, and it’s being served in California schools. A full circle, homegrown collaboration we’re proud to be part of. For over 40 years, we’ve partnered with schools and communities to deliver meals with purpose. It’s not just about making food—it’s about showing up, listening, and building something better together. Big thanks to LAUSD for the trust.
