"The Fourteenth Book is entitled, 'What can a Thoughtful Man Hope for Mankind on Earth, Given the Experience of the Past Million Years?'
It doesn't take long to read The Fourteenth Book. It consists of one word and a period.
This is it: 'Nothing.'"

As many of you might already know, I had this dream to become a faculty. Unfortunately, that did not happen, so instead I decided to create my own lab kind of a thing.
I am trying to start working with some students (PhD, masters, undergrad are all welcome) and mentor them.

Human Creativity in the Age of LLMs
Randomized Experiments on Divergent and Convergent Thinking
"Our findings reveal that while LLM assistance can provide short-term boosts in creativity during assisted tasks, it may inadvertently hinder independent creative
performance when users work without assistance, raising concerns about the long-term impact on human creativity and cognition."

LLM tutors are increasingly used in classrooms, but how they’re introduced to students matters! Our upcoming #CSCW2024 paper tests different forms of initial guidance—showing their effects on trust, interaction dynamics, and student learning.
Preprint: arxiv.org/pdf/2310.13712

ALT Figure illustrating two approaches to using LLM guidance in problem-solving tasks: LLM-First (starting with input from LLM) and Self-First (starting with independent attempts). Four guidance strategies are presented: G1 (list of suggestions for LLM use), G2 (example-based instruction showing exemplary interactions), G3 (metacognitive questioning to prompt reflection before LLM use), and G4 (solving independently first, then refining based on LLM feedback).
How can educators best guide students in using LLMs? @1harsh_kumar and team @UofTCompSci tested strategies beyond just giving instructions, like providing examples and encouraging independent problem-solving. Read their #CSCW2024 paper: tinyurl.com/4jxy9m5c-cscw202…

Just saw on TV a character playing Ariely say "one of the easiest ways to get more [organ donation] sign ups is to change the default to donating". Someone replies "wait a minute, you're *that* professor!"
Thing is, "that professor" is actually @ProfEricJohnson and me

I'm on the job market this year! Looking for tenure-track academic and industry researcher positions, especially in human-AI interaction and digital interventions. Please share!
I'm a PhD candidate in Computer Science at the University of Toronto, where I design interactive, AI-driven interventions that can adapt to the individual and social contexts of users. I've published at top HCI conferences and received Best Paper and Honorable Mention awards at CHI. My work has resulted in several interventions that impacted over 12,000 people and contributed to enhancing personality traits of Copilot.
