The Sebastopol Monument (also known as the Welsford-Parker Monument) was built in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1860 to commemorate the Nova Scotians who fought and died in the Crimean war. It is the 4th oldest war memorial in Canada and the only Crimean War memorial in North America.

It's underrated how much Italian engineers influenced warfare in 16th century Europe by designing these elaborate bastion forts adapted to new gunpowder warfare.
They were working on forts all over Europe, with over 60 Italian engineers in Low Countries alone in 16th century.
The citadel of Antwerp, built on the orders of the Duke of Alba in 1567–1572. Designed by Francesco Paciotto, it was an early example of the complete Italian bastioned system of fortification outside Italy.
It survived, with additional outlying fortifications, into the 19th century, when it underwent its last siege by the French army in 1832.

Bro really mastered the art of disappearing in plain sight! They can search all day, but finding him? That’s a whole different mission! Who else noticed him?

My thoughts of late have returned to this amazing scene by @WilliamShatner, made decades ago.
As a young person, I found it tremendously inspiring. A code to live by.
But it didn’t play out quite like we expected.
The “fantastically advanced” life that we actually ended up encountering is right here, on Earth. All around us now.
The key issue of our time is becoming this:
Not everyone signed up for this mission, or the risk. And what we do about that, ultimately, is where the debate about AI will end up.

THE FLINTSTONES SELL WINSTON CIGARETTES! (1960s) 🚬
Yabba Dabba Doo!
Believe it or not, Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble once appeared in television commercials promoting Winston cigarettes!
When The Flintstones premiered in 1960, it was originally aimed at adults, and Winston was one of the show’s original sponsors.
Hard to imagine today, but there was a time when cartoon characters could light up a cigarette right on television!
Here’s a vintage commercial that shows just how much television advertising has changed over the decades.
Do you remember seeing this one, or is it your first time watching Fred and Barney sell cigarettes?
