My comrade in education @KeithEricBenson wrote a powerful testimony to the power of relationships with students. His ability to do that made it possible to intervene in his students lives when they needed support. Camden needs more of this. camden2025.com/2024/09/01/a-…

Two reasons why teaching is harder than surgery:
1️⃣ Surgeons can work without the patients' cooperation. The patient is likely sleeping!
2️⃣ Surgeons can do their job successfully without the relationship-building required for teaching.

Research generally fails to support the idea that kids must be taught certain basic facts or skills before they can actively construct conceptual understanding. So some traditionalists started using the term "foundational" to make their favored approach APPEAR more persuasive

Traditionalists use "feel-good" and “touchy-feely” as all-purpose epithets to disparage whatever seems suspiciously pleasurable.
In education, that includes authentic assessments (vs. tests & grades) and discovery-based learning (vs. memorizing facts).

"If you get rid of the zero on a 0-100 scale you inflate grades!" is a common misconception. Here's a helpful explanation of how the 0-100 scale artificially depresses grades and the 50-100 or 0-4 scale is more mathematically sound, accurate, & fair. edweek.org/leadership/opinio…
