Australia needs innovative solutions and new public health promotion measures to cope with the increasing demand for hospital care caused by an ageing population and an increase in chronic diseases

This figure is staggering! A lot higher than I expected before we started this study.
More evidence that frailty is not synonymous with old age! In this study, 27% of 18-49 year-olds were frail and at risk of prolonged hospitalisation!

Are women less frail than men? After all, they do live longer lives. Or does women’s greater burden of disease and poorer functional status mean they are more frail than men? Looking forward to exploring this paradox next week with @David_D_Ward and @DrEHGordon
Totally agree!
Frailty is not a contraindication to prescribe exercise therapy, but rather one of the most important reasons to prescribe it.

3 solutions to the emergency care crisis from BGS President @adamgordon1978:
1. Shift in attitudes - half of patients have frailty.
2. Front door frailty.
3. Investment in rehabilitation. Until we fix rehab, the revolving door will continue.

We are on the edge of a demographic cliff. For the first time in human history there are more people aged over 65 years than there are aged less than 5 years. Managing this requires a complete redesign of the healthcare system and we need to get ready!
