There is growing emphasis on considering children’s rights in planning decisions, but adults’ claims to these rights can be problematic, particularly in contested cases. Check Powell, @dr_muddiman, Power & @profchristaylor's new paper to learn more onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

My thoughts are with Goldsmiths colleagues this weekend who are waiting to find out who will receive redundancy notices on Monday. Please share - on why this matters to anyone who believes in the transformative power of education.

Hind's mum's words are profoundly moving. We will never forget Hind, but she should still be alive. Never forget that a little girl was murdered by a genocidal entity, alone and in panic for hours.
Hind Rajab's mom on Columbia students naming Hind's Hall: "I started crying because I wanted all of these movements & support to come while Hind was still alive." Hopes protests don't stop till permanent ceasefire. "Wake up now! Why are others like Hind still going through this?"

The response to student protests at universities like mine @USC and throughout America has been unacceptable Not to mention counterproductive, even on its own terms #Gaza #protest #freespeech Thank you to all the students and faculty standing up for our values @amanpour 🙏🏽
“I do question how much the university administration understands the concept of free speech,” says @USC journalism professor @afuahirsch. “The point of free speech is that people have the right to say things that you might find uncomfortable or inconvenient,” she tells me.

Now over 30 Uni's looking at closures and implementing redundancy schemes, 10 added to this list in the past 24 hours alone. ⬇️Where is @ucu's national stance? Where is @UKLabour? Why is nobody talking about the fact that UK HE is literally crumbling around us? Wake up!
Replying to @qm_ucu
@qm_ucu have created a live web page of all the closures and redundancies in UK Higher Education. There’s currently over 20 Uni’s and the list is growing by the day. qmucu.org/qmul-transformatio…

Over half of Black children, and 47% of Asian children are living in poverty. Utterly shocking in 2024 Britain, and inexcusable. This is a political choice.
BREAKING Child poverty has risen *again*. 4.3 million children are living in poverty. In a general election year, nothing should be more important to our political leaders than making things better for the country’s poorest kids.

I'm really pleased that @Nature have covered our new campaign. This is a no-brainer - please look at our briefing note and send it to relevant people in your institution (such as Head of HR, University Secretary, and chair of the sexual violence committee, if you have one)

I’m sickened by the direction the UK is heading on race relations. Recent alleged comments esp. re @HackneyAbbott are abhorrent, racist, misogynistic & alarmingly incite violence. They encourage a blanket disregard for all Black women. We need political leadership that unites.
