When I can’t get a bed for teenagers dying with anorexia & a patient with psychosis becomes homeless and seriously ill with malnutrition because his psychotic episodes were not managed with assertive outreach, don’t tell me we should invest in an app. medicalrepublic.com.au/pwcs-…

Seeking asylum is a human right.
It’s actually a legal right
Enshrined in the Refugee Convention.
A convention every single western country is a signatory too.
You know the same ones whose governments call people seeking asylum “illegals.”
What’s illegal is their policies
Beautifully said. Children should see the breadth of human experience and expression from a safe standpoint to learn about the world they live in, and potentially to learn more about themselves
"Drag queen story time opens kids' eyes to a world that is diverse and reflective of reality. It offers queer kids an opportunity to see themselves. If queer kids don't see themselves represented in this world, how can they envision a future with them in it?" - @ReubenKaye #QandA

An apple costs $2.
You have $1.
How many apples can you buy?
The government makes it so that you now have $1.25 (if you are under 16 or have a concession / pension. Everyone else still has $1)
How many apples can you buy now?

Uncertainty over how many GPs will increase bulk billing after reforms afr.com/policy/health-and-ed…
What the heck @NTGovHealth - this is surely a breach of duty of care to this woman and her child??
Also it doesn’t just add “difficulty in access” - for many kids, esp rural/remote or family under financial strain, it essentially means no access to asthma preventer inhalers that are safe and recommended for age group.

Republicans justify banning books about race, gender & sexuality by saying that school-age children aren’t ‘emotionally mature enough’ to handle the content.
But they’ll force a 10yr old girl to give birth, let a 14yr old work in a meatpacking plant & hand a 6yr old a gun.

Hi, ER Doc here.
I use this account to teach people about medical emergencies. I don’t give a shit about a blue checkmark I care about reaching people. I would love to hit 400K followers to be able to reach more people.
Can I get some RTs and Follows to help me get there?

Mark Latham is unfit to serve as a member of parliament and should resign. That is not a partisan view, it is the only acceptable consequence of his consciously chosen actions. There is no place in public service for a person who expresses destructive bigotry as he has today.
Great thread. Thanks @timsenior!
It's #IWD2023 so let's have a chat about the gender pay gap in Australian general practice.
For every hour worked today a female GP will earn on average $11 per hour less than their male colleagues.
(Yes, per hour, so this isn't part time work, maternity leave etc.)

Justice reinvestment and primary prevention work way better than prison. Employment and education are the keys to fixing inequity!
"Prison is the most expensive but least effective option in terms of trying to tackle crime. We need to put the money where it counts, into the underlying causes of the crime, into the community, into housing, into better education systems."

Maybe if we can’t tell what’s right and wrong at age 21 as privileged young people, we should be considering whether kids aged 10 should maybe not be held to have understanding of criminal responsibility in nsw #RaiseTheAge
