PMR patients get too much steroid.
Data across 27 million people in England, n=39,438 with PMR.
The blue are getting more pred than guidelines.
Like everything in rheum: we need to be giving less pred, not more. Lumping PMR in with GCA won’t help.

Thanks @CatherineL_Hill! Pleased that I could still be a part of @VasculitisBCN24 and share our #PMR research @Austin_Health - pmrgca.com.au

MSK conditions are third disease group contributing to burden of disease of Australians. Research funding for MSK disease doesn't reflect this. @ArthritisAust @Mark_Butler_MP @nhmrc @AusRheum
The top 5 disease groups accounted for around two-thirds (64%) of the total burden of disease in 2023. Read more brnw.ch/21wFqCh

Come say hi at poster 1890 #ACR23 - AI to diagnose atypical #PMR on PET/CT. Delighted to see Dr Emily Martin present this important work @Austin_Health @earlyARA @drdavidliew @DrCMcMaster @bonnialiu
Congratulations to @tonysammel on presenting the 5 year results of the GAPS study. Providing fresh insight into GCA’s potential natural history at large vs. cranial vessels👏
@tonysammel presenting 5 yr follow up of GAPS study. Showed resolution of cranial activity in GCA but 45% new aortic activity on PET. Exclusively in this not taking a DMARD. It's a small study (n=11) but is it early evidence of disease modifications? #ACR23

A huge day for #PMR, no doubt this is its “one small step….” moment🙌. Feeling hopeful that this is the beginning of a therapeutic paradigm shift for our patients @NEJM @drdavidliew @Sarah_L_Mackie @SattuiSEMD @DrMaxYates1 @CatherineL_Hill
Better than the cover of the Rolling Stone:
PMR is in @NEJM
SAPHYR phase 3
sarilumab after 52w leads to:
- more sustained remission (28% vs 10%)
- less steroid (777mg vs 2044mg)
- well tolerated
the first ever @US_FDA approved medicine for PMR

7 million Australians with one or more musculoskeletal conditions - @MSKAust supports the call for more rheumatology training places to be funded to meet the desperate need for improved access to care. @AusRheum @Mark_Butler_MP #ARA23
We need a lot more rheumatologists in Australia very soon, just to do the bare minimum for the community.
Many quality junior docs willing, but no opportunities.
More training places funded, now #ARA23 @healthgovau @AusRheum @Mark_Butler_MP
