For more than two days, we have been crying out, appealing to the world, and writing about the deliberate starvation we are facing. The lives of more than two million people in Gaza are now threatened by death from hunger. We have done everything in our power to make our voices heard. We have urged the world to pressure Israel to allow meat, poultry, vegetables, fruit, flour, and bread into Gaza to feed families and children whose bodies have been devastated by more than three years of genocidal war and weakened by relentless suffering. But what happened? Yesterday, Israel allowed trucks into Gaza and announced to the world that it had delivered food and water. Then came the shock: the trucks were carrying only charcoal and cleaning products instead of the essential food supplies our children and families need to survive! What kind of deception is this? What kind of disregard for the lives of more than two million people left to face starvation, while the world is presented with an image suggesting that our needs have been met? We do not need charcoal and cleaning products to survive starvation. We need food, bread, vegetables, fruit, and the nutrition that can prevent our children's bodies from collapsing. Enough deception. Enough silence in the face of our starvation! The suffering of an entire people cannot be concealed behind trucks that carry none of the essentials we need to stay alive.
