One query. Thousands of compute units. One answer. A SurrealDB Earth query is split across thousands of database compute cells on @Cloudflare and merged into one result, every leg reading the same point in time. 10+ billion peak rows per second, fully transactional. 🔗 sdb.li/4sHnxYH

Serverless databases have a reputation for being the small, convenient option, not the fast one. I wanted to see how far I could push that. This week we launched @SurrealDB Earth, serverless SurrealDB on @Cloudflare. It starts when a query arrives and scales to zero when nobody is using it. So I pointed it at 5 billion rows and asked it to count them. In a single second, it read more than 4.5 billion of them. That is over 90% of the table, more than 350 GB of data, in one second. Every number here is from a real run, not a projection. There was no cluster to provision and nothing to size. The parallelism appeared the moment the query needed it and was gone the moment it finished. And it is the full SurrealDB engine, with ACID transactions. It is not perfect yet. 99.6% of the work finishes fast, but the slowest 0.4% still drags the full count out to several seconds. I know why, and my target is the entire query in under 2 seconds. Honestly, I still find it hard to believe. I am convinced this design has orders of magnitude left in it, on reads, on writes, and in places I have not talked about yet. I will be recording a video soon with much bigger numbers. The small, convenient option just got very fast. I am really proud of what this team has built 🌍

ついに SurrealDB 4 登場!!
SurrealDB 4 is here. The database and memory for every agent. And with it, SurrealDB Earth. Serverless SurrealDB, built on @Cloudflare, that scales to as many agents and users as you need, wherever they are. Start free on Earth, no card needed. 👉 sdb.li/4sHnxYH

SurrealDB 4 and @SurrealDB Earth are out today. When we started SurrealDB, I wanted one database that could hold every shape of data and query it all together. Now every agent, user and app can have a database of its own.

This is insane… the biggest launch of all time. I’ve waited so long for this moment.

Major moment for @SurrealDB Building a database is an incredible grind - if you get that initial open-source pop, you then face years of unglamorous hard work to build a truly world class product SurrealDB 4 is now that product. Multi-model (vector, graph, document), ACID compliant, w/ a rebuilt engine, native Postgres/MySQL support + massive scalability via @Cloudflare handling 10B+ peak rows/sec The modern database for the agentic era.

A few years ago @at_chiru and I started talking about what it would take to run SurrealDB serverless, on Cloudflare. Today we’re launching SurrealDB Earth. I got to lead a lot of the engineering behind it, and it’s been a wild ride. 1/6

The trickiest part was separating the lifetime of the compute from the lifetime of the data. Your database can go completely idle and nothing is lost. When the next query arrives, it starts back up and carries on where it left off. 5/6

Huge thanks to the team, there were a lot of late nights behind this. It’s pretty special seeing something we talked about years ago turn into something people can actually use. Try it out: surrealdb.com/earth

Is caching cope? Both yes and no. But I do believe that the answer to (distributed) caching should be 'demand a better database' much more often than it is. Let's break it down a bit.
Caching IS cope, been telling clients for years 😭

I found a way to speed up Rust builds by 10x... the project isn't ready just yet but I have some early numbers to share some details: - dissolve crates as the compile unit (@charliermarsh) - aggressively cache codegen on a per function basis - fine-grained span invalidation

Terafab alone might exceed the GDP of South Korea. I don't think people realize how deep in the tech tree Elon is going.

Built by community member Drew Ridley, SurrealGuard adds static analysis and type inference to SurrealQL, catching schema mismatches before they hit SurrealDB, with typed results in Rust and TypeScript. Check out the GitHub repo. 👉 github.com/DrewRidley/surrea…

So ARC-AGI was just a harness problem all along!?
Introducing Prime Agent: A self-improving RLM harness for coding and long-running autonomous tasks. Designed to be both token-efficient and expressive through programmatic tool calling, context as a variable, multi-agent messaging, and a self-modifiable harness state.

everyone has a very confident opinion about whether AI code is obvious. I pulled real PRs off of Github. One's that have clanker signatures, and ones merged before ChatGPT existed. Turns out most people are near a coin-flip. Find out which one you are blamegame.dev
