What would it look like if we could ask, "how do I make this the absolute best environment for complex problem-solving" instead of "how do I take away all these annoying hard problems." The stuff we want to accomplish in the world is hard. But can be joyful to accomplish.

Look what “leadership” has wrought.
A new Gallup poll finds at least half of American workers say they’re “quiet quitting” — performing only the tasks they’re required to, giving up on going “above and beyond.” gallup.com/workplace/398306/…

All the "how to be a good manager" content is cringe to me. Everyone doing it feels woke, but it's like reading "how to be a good dictator" to me. Like, your whole premise is off. You're not someone's parent. You're another adult.

“Where do health care workers go from here? What is needed to prevent a continued exodus away from the front lines, to ensure that patients will have continued access to high quality, evidence-based care?”

And I’ll add one more: we really need to do something about the *system of work*: the processes, technology, management style, assumptions about how work gets done, etc. etc. etc. — because that contributes to burden, too.

"This influx of coronavirus-positive patients is also creating another source of infection for health care workers, who are being sidelined in numbers I’ve never seen before." nytimes.com/2022/01/10/opini…
There’s a ghost on the corner of 3rd and Broadway I noticed him the other day, as I made a left turn at the light. He wasn’t there a week ago. He must be new. Nobody I recognize, but then again, his face is blurry and indistinct. I look at him now, and I drive past. 1/

Goals and goal setting may not be all they’ve been cracked up to be. throughthework.com/flow/some…

Of course on the other side of that extreme is the potential for wasted effort caused of the indifferent acceptance that goal setting *must* be a regular organizational practice.

Goals and goal setting are not neutral. Goal setting can be good. It can also lead to bad outcomes.
“There’s never a line. Everything everywhere is always moving forever. Get used to it.” That’s the world we work in. Sage advice from the fictional Logan Roy.
