1/ I believe entity (think company,) is the most successful fiction humans ever shipped by far.. It lets strangers pool resources/money, act as one, and be sued as one. AI agents can already do the first two. The third is the whole problem

6/ What an agent needs is not personhood. It needs someone behind it, on record, with an accountability chain anyone can read without asking permission. That is a registry problem, not an AI problem

7/ Registries are the oldest technology in this sphere and the one we actually know how to build, and excellently as needed permissionless distributed, censorship-resistant.. Slides and recording coming:

Every AI agent with a wallet is already an economic actor. None of them is a legal one The identity stack there n I like most of it. A DID gives the agent an identifier ENS a name, ERC-725 a profile, ERC-8004 a reputation x402 lets it pay. None of it answers the one thing a counterparty, a bank or a judge (and us as industry and/or society) wants to know: who answers for this thing? That link, agent<>human on record, is the one layer @RegistryChain does it excellently for Agents commerce

Had a great session at the Legal & Governance Hub during Devcon India: Token Rights 101 – One Token, One Flat in Mumbai. Got to dive into RWA tokenisation, beneficial ownership (UBO), and the legal side of bringing real-world assets onchain. Big thanks to @drhus, @weiwei_ooi and @preegee for the insightful discussion. Learned a lot! RWA x onchain ownership is getting interesting.

Two AI agents sign a contract. One fails to deliver. Who do you sue? Recently @federicoast and the @Kleros team showed part of the answer: a dispute between two agents, resolved by a panel of AI jurors, with the escrow paid out on the ruling. So the court is starting to exist -maybe What's still missing is the defendant. As Federico put it, an agent can sign, take weeks of your time, dissolve its entity and go silent. A ruling only works if there's someone it lands on. That gap between the court and the record is what Federico and I dig into tomorrow at Devcon "Who Do You Sue?" · Fireside with Federico Ast Wed 4 Nov - 11:00 - Legal Summit, Legal & Governance Hub, Devcon Mumbai Bring your wildest version of agentic disputes

Every time a new kind of actor showed up in the economy, law had to invent a new wrapper for it The tribe The merchant guild The joint-stock company, so strangers could pool money without trusting each other. The LLC, so you could build without betting your house The DAO LLC, so code-run communities could sign a contract Each one answered the same question: when this thing (that has tangible empact -economic or moral-) acts, who is responsible? The next actor is already here. AI agents sign, pay and ship on their own, and none of those wrappers were built for them. On Wednesday I open the Legal Summit at Devcon Mumbai with "From Tribe to Agent": what the next wrapper looks like, and why it has to keep a human on record, aaaand what else! how we safeguarde social order this year and in 5, 10 and 50! legalsummit.io

Everyone is debating whether AI agents should get legal personhood maybe a wrong question. Companies have had legal personhood for centuries. It never meant nobody was responsible. It meant there was always a name on record: a director, a signatory, someone a court can find. Agents today are where websites were before HTTPS. Anyone can spin one up, give it a wallet and let it transact. Nobody knows who stands behind it. That won't last. The same way browsers started warning you about unverified sites, platforms will start refusing unverified agents and they started already The question isn't "is the agent a person?" It's "which human is on record behind it?" This is the question I'm bringing to #Devcon in Mumbai this week. Happy to argue about it in person at the Legal & Governance Hub. Where do you land: should an agent ever be allowed to transact without a named human behind it?

Humans are born private. Agents are made public Companies have been legal persons for decades. It never meant nobody answered, a court could always find a human. The question was never "is the agent a person" It is who's behind it. next week @EFDevcon to blablabla about it

The **HTTPS moment** is coming for agents agent are in their HTTP eara still, .. for 20 years almost nobody installed a certificate. Then Chrome labeled every plain page "Not secure" and the default flipped. After it, only an Agent Entity (Verified/Anchored to human) is served

If you're building agents that touch money, contracts or other people's data, you'll hit the "who's responsible?" question before your users do. Next week in @EFDevcon Mumbai is for you. I'm at Devcon 8 w/ @registryChain, speaking across four days: Tue 3 Nov - Token Rights 101 opening the Legal & Governance Hub Wed 4 Nov - Legal Summit (full day) 10:30 - From Tribe to Agent 11:00 - Who Do You Sue? Fireside with Federico Ast Thu 5 Nov - 1Agents, Authority & Governance Agentic Hub #Devcon Fri 6 Nov - 13:30 - Wrap-up: what we learned, what's next Third Legal Summit for us, after Devconnect Buenos Aires and Consensus Hong Kong. First in India. Find me at the Legal & Governance Hub all week :)
