If the first Toronto mayor to seriously fix the city's finances is also the first incumbent to lose reelection, this city will be doomed to austerity and crumbling infrastructure for decades.
A new poll finds Brad Bradford has taken a narrow lead over Olivia Chow in the Toronto mayoral race, with less than a week to go until election day.

Tommy Douglas knew then what New Democrats still know today.
If we could mobilize the resources of this country to defeat Nazi tyranny, there is no reason we cannot do the same to make sure that each and every person has what they need to live a dignified life.
Happy Birthday, Tommy.

There’s lots of rightful celebration over Solomon getting elected, but I really wanna highlight Jamie Han. A formidable organizer and definitely someone that has a very bright future
I’m levitating today in the warm afterglow of a left-wing surge in my home city of Vancouver!
Democratic socialists and progressives united to take on the power of big money and the politics of fear and division.
The parties were strategic in agreeing on a fixed number of candidates, and narrowed the field for one progressive mayoralty candidate.
This was key – working together across differences is what’s needed in these scary political times. Congrats to @COPEVancouver, @OneCityVan, and the @VanGreens: it wasn’t always easy, but it worked.
Cheers and flowers for all the candidates and volunteers who threw down hard on the ground game: this is how we build power from below! People organized relentlessly for a city government for the 99% – and they *won*.
Today Vancouver belongs to the many, not the money.
Congrats to Mayor-elect @PtFry, super councillor @seanorr, @ynd_jnd members Solomon Yi-Kieran and Jamie Han, and everyone involved in this thrilling victory.

In retrospect it's insane Stephen Molnar and co. didn't fridge Ken after this and try and give Sarah Kirby-Yung a brat FIFA summer. Could've saved more than just Mike Klassen...
CYND would like to warmly congratulate Young New Democrats Solomon Yi-Kieran and Jamie Han for getting elected to Vancouver City Council and Park Board respectively under the banner of COPE, a socialist municipal party. Together, Young New Democrats are making history!

this is the happiest i’ve ever been about an election victory in my life. i had a feeling it would be good but i did not expect pete to blow ken out of the water like he did, and i did not expect the full COPE sweep. it’s so beautiful. long live vancouver the people’s city.
I am voting for Olivia Chow for Mayor of Toronto. Her commitment to a city that works for everyone has been clear and deserves support. She is wise and caring. She pushes forward with courage and compassion and has the integrity and consistency we need at this moment.

My NEW article is out with @CDN_Dimension
If we want to be masters in our own home, Canadians must democratically own the key means of production through a combination of public, worker, and cooperative ownership.

do people really not know they were maoists? they were as open about it as they could be without like straight up naming their band "protracted people's war against the machine" or something

Deregulated electricity markets such as Alberta’s were formulated in an era of stagnation and not designed to accommodate load growth.

So, Conservatives think public ownership is good when it’s gifting the highly profitable oil industry another pipeline, but not when it means saving Canadian jobs and our domestic steel industry?
Interesting.
Anyway. Nationalize Stelco.
I’m deeply saddened to learn of the incredible Irene Mathyssen’s passing. Irene was a force who fought relentlessly for our movement, and for a Canada that upholds the dignity of every person. In calling for a housing bill of rights, the expansion of EI for workers, and fighting for women’s liberation, Irene pushed to make life better for people on every front.
I’m sending love and strength to Keith, Lindsay, and everyone who feels her great loss.

Avi Lewis on nationalizing Stelco: "The goal of the tariff war is to de-industrialize Canada. Trump has been clear about that, to destroy our manufacturing industries and other industries. And we have to step up and resist. we need to save the industry, and this is the way to do it."

An ownership stake instead of the conservative way of giving endless blank cheques with our tax dollars is the way.

Just pass nationalization legislation and hold your finger over the trigger. Worked for Saskatchewan in far more serious and essential circumstances than this.

We need to nationalize Stelco.
We need public control of the commanding heights of our economy.
And we need a socialist industrial strategy to plan our economy, employ every Canadian, and mobilize our resources for the nationbuilding projects we actually need.
Canada cannot afford to lose its steel industry. It's time to nationalize Stelco.
Stelco’s American owners have broken their commitments. Their CEO supports Trump’s tariffs, which are designed to deindustrialize our economy and destroy our manufacturing base.
More than 500 workers in Hamilton are facing layoffs.
If we’re serious about saving these jobs and the Canadian steel industry, Canada must nationalize Stelco.
