Measles cases have surged globally, with Australia among the countries seeing a rise in infections. Seventeen cases have been recorded in NSW alone this year, most linked to overseas travellers. NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant has urged the community to stay vigilant, stressing that two vaccine doses provide 99 per cent protection. Paediatric infectious disease specialist Dr Philip Britton also warned that measles is highly infectious and can cause serious complications like pneumonia and brain inflammation. He has urged parents, especially those travelling to affected regions, to ensure their children are fully vaccinated.
