I have just interviewed several Somalia National Army (SNA) soldiers who survived yesterday’s battles against Al-Shabaab. According to their firsthand accounts, the reported death toll is staggering:
- Abgaal: 400 killed
- Habar Gidir: 300 killed
- Marehan: 94 killed
Total: 794 reported fatalities, pending independent verification.
Survivors described a catastrophic breakdown in military command, with no effective battlefield leadership, clear operational orders, or coordinated retreat plan. They also claimed that the operation was largely directed by Turkish military personnel.
These accounts raise serious questions about operational command, battlefield coordination, and responsibility for the reported losses.
