Scrum is a set of prescribed processes that optimizes for control. Kanban is a scheduling system that optimizes for flow and limits waste. Both of them help you build software incrementally. However, neither of them help you build sustainable software or sustainable teams. 1/5

“When something’s not working the struggling moment occurs. It forces people to stop and ask themselves a question. It’s those questions that spur demand. When you study how people buy, you realize if there’s no struggle, there’s no demand—without demand people don’t buy. “

For all of my opinions, writings and talks about the principles, processes, practices and tools which help folks (and businesses) be more effective in software/product development, the trait I actually believe to be the MOST potent one for excellence in this arena is KINDNESS.

The problem is not people being uneducated. The problem is that people are educated just enough to believe what they have been taught, and not educated enough to question anything from what they have been taught. 🧠

Dammit this is fire. Our language changed to meet an unhealthy habit in culture. We are now paying the price of that revision to the word “priority”.

You realise "Agile" was a known thing (via the manifesto) for 3 years before Facebook existed. And was a solid way of working for many for a decade or so before that. Yet it still gets framed in 2020 as "NEW ways of working". LOL.

COVID19 does not treat the rich and poor equally. It is not the great leveller. It magnifies inequality. Those in lowpaid frontline jobs are more at risk; they are more exposed. The lockdown is harder on those who live in cramped tower blocks, their mental health is more at risk.

If you have ever watched symphony orchestra you may have noticed how inefficient the musicians are. They are not utilised 100%.Most have below 50% efficiency. Imagine how good the music would turn out if all instruments were playing all the times. Such is the science of efficiency
