Hideo Kojima stated that social media amplifies false information as gamers misrepresent games as if they actually played them🚀 In an interview with the film’s director Alejandro González Iñárritu, Kojima spoke about Iñárritu’s film “Digger” among others things, and the way social media has become a cesspit of “false information” that is continuously amplified and risks influencing politics and daily life. ✅Kojima noted that while Metal Gear Solid 2 envisioned AI-controlled misinformation before social media existed, “now, that’s become our reality.” ✅Kojima cited Death Stranding as an example, noting that people who haven't played the game still falsely call it “this is just a walking simulator,” highlighting how unverified claims persist as facts. ✅Director Alejandro González Iñárritu added that algorithms trap users in echo chambers where they only see opinions they agree with, resulting in a “fragmented truth.” ✅Both creators agreed that whether affecting entertainment or major political issues, the scale and annoyance of online misinformation and coordinated hate campaigns continue to grow. Source: @Gizmodo I always had this thought that so much of the false narrative about Death Stranding being a “walking simulator” was pure lies and misinformation amplified by those who never played the game and wanted to so badly to hold something negative against it. Death Stranding had a lot of action and combat, and the second game amplified that even further. You could fight enemies quite regularly with a wide range of weapons, engage in stealth and all out action, find resources, build structures, create complex transportation networks, and fight epic bosses. Yet somehow, someone who never played the game tells you it’s “Amazon delivery simulator”. This is precisely the type of idiocy that keeps getting amplified because some people want so badly to feel like they stand for something by fabricating a fake narrative against something.
