How can organisations make better use of existing data to design targeted interventions for teenage pregnancy and other reproductive health challenges?
Health data can be revisited to understand what has changed, what hasn’t, and where strategies may need to be adjusted. That’s the value of being data-driven: using evidence to understand the problem, inform decisions and measure what happens next.
Data can inform where resources are directed, which interventions are prioritised, who needs to be reached and what outcomes should be monitored. But data use shouldn’t stop when an intervention begins.
We can also ask: Are social or economic factors contributing to the problem? Are existing interventions reaching the people they were designed to reach? These questions can help move organisations beyond a one-size-fits-all approach.
For teenage pregnancy, the data can help us ask better questions: Are young people accessing accurate reproductive health information? Are contraception and other relevant services available and accessible?
