And it fills you with fear to see kids, whom you can’t keep indoors, playing outdoor totally oblivious of the serious health hazard they are exposing themselves to. I wish absolute ill on those, who have the means and power to prevent it but won’t doing anything.
When AQI turns SEVERE, even healthy people struggle to breathe. For children, the elderly and those with respiratory or heart conditions, it can mean emergency visits, hospitalisation and ICU admissions.
Dr Randeep Guleria makes it clear; this is not just a weather problem. It is an emissions problem.
Stubble burning, crackers, diesel generators, vehicles and construction dust, we know the sources. We know the solutions.
How many more winters of illness before authorities move from explanations to accountability and action?

There is nothing that can be done about stubble burning in Pakistan. And with elections coming up in Punjab next year, no political party can afford to speak up, and forget taking any strict action there either.
Because winning elections is far more important in our country, even if ordinary people keep choking and coughing their lungs out and eventually die.
After all, what are common people even there for, if not to be made to suffer?
Air quality index on the morning of 3rd November is significantly higher in Punjab, Haryana and west Uttar Pradesh even compared to core areas of Delhi NCR (Image 1)
The reason is simple, In last 24 hours Stubble burning observed across Pakistan, Punjab and limited in north Haryana --Smoke plumes from fire have settled down more over here with the flow of NW winds. Areas across west central Punjab, North and central Haryana and west UP are in direct alignment of smog concentration through calm north west wind flow.
While Delhi NCR is not better #AQI levels across the stations are in the range of 300-500, It can probably get worse today as #Smog and wind alignment would shift more towards NCR!
Wear mask when visiting outdoors, If possible limit outdoor exposure across northern plains.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has issued show-cause notices to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Gurdaspur over a reported rise in paddy residue-burning incidents.
According to the figures cited by CAQM, Gurdaspur recorded 100 farm-fire incidents between September 15 and November 2, 2026, compared to 53 during the corresponding period in 2025.
Similar notices have also been issued to the DC and SSP of Kapurthala.

INDIA is LEADING THE WORLD in something no country should aspire to - TOXIC AIR .
Extreme air pollution damages the lungs, heart and brain, increases the risk of cancer, strokes and respiratory diseases, and causes premature deaths.
Exposure in Pregnant Women is linked to premature births, low birth weight, restricted foetal growth and adverse developmental outcomes.
For children, it can impair lung growth, affect physical development and contribute to stunting. It is also associated with altered brain development, impaired memory, attention, learning and lower IQ.
A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis found a significant association between rising PM2.5 exposure and lower IQ scores in children.
This is not just about a few bad days of AQI. Air pollution is shortening the average Indian’s life expectancy by an estimated 3.5 years. In Delhi, the estimated loss is 8.2 years.
Indians deserve better. Our children deserve the chance to grow, learn and reach their full potential without having to breathe toxic air.
A government that cannot protect its citizens from the very air they breathe has failed at one of its most fundamental responsibilities.
Clean Air is not a luxury,
IT’S A RIGHT !

AQI 570! 🚨 Read that again.
That's not "poor." It's not "severe." It's hazardously off the scale.
This is the air outside your door right now, and your lungs don't get a day off.
Windows shut. Limit time outdoors. Mask up if you have to step out.
