WPCode is now being used by over 2 million websites!! 🎉🥳 Here's a quick story of how a simple internal tool became one of the top 30 most popular WordPress plugins of all time ... with almost NO marketing. First, let's look at what is WPCode? WPCode.com is like a Google Tag Manager for WordPress except a lot EASIER. You can use it to add code snippets on your WordPress site while future-proofing your website customizations. Example use-cases include: - Conversion pixel scripts - Banner ads - Custom call-to-actions ... and really any custom code snippet can be safely enabled or disabled without ever touching FTP or SSH. BUT that's not how it started, and it wasn't even called WPCode. In 2011, I needed an easy way to add my analytics and other tracking scripts in WordPress header. This meant editing header.php file and using SFTP every time I had to make changes. It just took too much time. So I built a simple plugin and named it exactly what it did -- Insert Headers and Footers by @wpbeginner. wordpress.org/plugins/insert… Because it was such a simple tool that would require practically no maintenance, I open-sourced the code and submitted it as a free plugin in the WordPress plugin directory (in 2012). I also wrote a blog post on WPBeginner and shared it with my readers. And the feedback was simply amazing. People ❤️ loved it. That's because previously this feature only existed in paid WordPress theme frameworks like Genesis, etc. Now it was free and available to everyone. I moved on to building my SaaS @optinmonster which of course turned out to be a huge success. Over the years, people kept sending me requests to add custom features in the Insert Headers and Footers plugin like conditional logic, URL level targeting, etc. Some users built customizations and sent me the code snippets to give back -- some of those got merged like the ability to add scripts in body tag. Anyways, for basically 10+ years this simple utility plugin continued to gain in popularity passing 1.5 million active installs. In this time, my company @AwesomeMotive went on to build numerous product companies. I was at my Growth Fund meetup brainstorming ideas and someone brought up the idea of revamping this tool to make it a true power house. Luckily I had all those ideas saved up in Notes. So I pinged @mircea_sandu and asked him if he'd be interested in leading this project. He of course said Yes! We agreed on the name WPCode and I purchased the domain name. In 4 months, we revamped and rebranded the tool and made the free version extremely powerful! At the core of it, we put our Code Snippet Library. library.wpcode.com/ It has 300+ WordPress code snippets that you can add to reduce the # of plugins on your site. We also made it so developers can upload private snippets to the cloud and easily + securely share it across their client projects. And since then our focus is to build deep integrations with other popular tools like @WooCommerce / @eddwp / @memberpress / @aioseopack etc. We have also built a robust Conversion Pixels addon for Facebook (Meta), Google, Snapchat, etc --- and the best part is that it can automatically do eCommerce tracking, click tracking, and more. Our goal is to help developers & website teams save time!
