Last night my brilliant friend with 20 years of expertise in Neuroscience including a decade at NIDA was fired because she was recently promoted for her outstanding performance and it triggered the probation period.
This is not making NIH more efficient, this is not making us healthier, this is not punishing the people who misled the public, this is destroying America’s talent.
Her work is instrumental for testing whether new medications to fight addiction are safe and efficacious before they are tested in humans. now that research is at risk.
She was the backbone of the lab the most senior person. So much knowledge, talent, know how, wasted, so much science destroyed for the wrong reason.
Sigh…

It’s important for us scientists to articulate that the NIH cuts are surgically cruel: designed not to save money, but to maximally implode the capacity and infrastructure for research; research that saves and improves lives around the world. Why? Just cruelty.
Presenting to a pigeon at @SfNtweets is now on my bucket list

Reminder: post-baccalaureate programs are a great, PAID opportunity for grads to get research experience before applying for PhD Programs, or if rejected this cycle. Many apps still open!

I need to acknowledge our director of grad studies @GregoryRSL for treating all students—current, past, accepted, & rejected—with the kindness that academia can so sadly lack. He’s going viral on Reddit for his thoughtful rejection letters, & I hope other programs follow suit.

This is sad. I feel for the students and the staff. This is the state we live in Florida. These orgs worked to make students accepted and successful while they are on campus. There are so many real dangers in this world that being afraid of a student center is pathetic.
BREAKING: Following the vote by the @FLBOG, @UofNorthFlorida has announced it will phase out its LGBTQ, Women's, Interfaith and Intercultural Centers. @ActionNewsJax Here's the letter just sent to student and faculty:

The regime is getting desperate to "prove" their scheme is working. 70+ spring admits, most with middling to low GPAs, to make up for the # of students who left. Churning students to maintain the mirage of growing enrollment is unethical. No one wins in this scenario.

Also at the faculty meeting: Rancourt telling the faculty to keep disagreements in house because it is making the college look bad which is hurting admissions.

BREAKING: New College of Florida faculty voted to oppose the college’s new online degree program.
The new program launched in collaboration with billionaire GOP- megadonor Joe Ricketts. Faculty were not advised, they said.

I’m sure that the faculty at New College would like to know all of this, and more!! @AAUP
