It's funny how internal analysis of Jaws Unleashed appears to indicate the internal project name was FISH. Just as Ecco is DOLPHIN and DOLPHIN TWO.
Novotrade are nothing if but consistent!
This week's special guest of Ecco Dev Chat, I believe, needs no introduction. Please welcome Spencer Nilsen himself!
Things did certainly get busy with him around =)

This is how you know you chose a vacation house properly!
To be fair, I wasn't expecting that, so I guess it's just the universe speaking to me ;)
Vortex Drones in Lunar Bay explode if they follow you to the surface for 2 reasons.
Lore: they're built for extreme pressure of the deep and can't rise too far.
Technical: game needs their section of the palette as it loads terrain above the surface.
Quite an elegant solution!
Bo, the code hunter has another surprise for us.
Ecco Jr. has a debug menu that you can call by pressing A, B, C, C, C, C, B, C, A during the game. Looking forward for his article on this!
This Friday dev chat recording is up. We reflect on SoA's work environment, discuss some aspects of computing history and make plans for future sessions. @DanielLionArts, thank you for great questions!

Have a tranquil peaceful screen transition theme from a cute little game about a cute little dolph...... WAIT A MINUTE
Magic Tools: custom tile and level editor used to make Game Gear port of Ecco. Another wonderful discovery by Benily of our community!

Al Nilsen recalls how Botticelli the Dolphin wasn't his idea after all, however he was not opposed to it.
"If I can market a Toejam, I can market a Botticelli!"
From this Friday's Ecco Q&A session.
Someone asked me for a video of the SEGA logo screen from Tides of Time. That turned into a quick session where I hacked routine responsible for it so that it runs forever.
Please enjoy BUBBLES!
This week's Ecco Dev Q&A we have a truly special guest: Alfred Nilsen, formerly head of marketing at Sega of America!
It was a blast and I wholly appreciate those deep dives down the memory vents. Apparently, Botticelli wasn't his idea after all!

Fun fact: first level of Ecco 1 has TWO bays: one full of life and another one empty.
The game teleports you to the next one as the screen flashes red and adjust the sonar map accordingly.
PICO Storyware usually have spoken dialogue and Ecco is no exception, making it the only game where he talks to us!
Romy Colombatto is credited as "Ecco's voice". Sadly, Ed Annunziata says that doesn't ring a bell.
When it comes to obscure official Ecco media, you probably can't go much further than this one released in 1994, one year before the Mega Drive title with the same name!
I hacked the PICO Ecco Jr. ROM so that we could record the full OST by Attila HΓ©ger in all its SN76489 glory!
Having gotten a real PICO I also confirmed that emulators play it slower. This is the correct speed!

Poking at Ecco PC by code hunter Bo reveals a cheat menu hidden away in the About section. So happy to see the port still receive attention!

One thing about Sega PICO I didn't realize is just how massive it is compared to Mega Drive it's based on until I actually saw one in person!
